Alesha and Matt have been upping the ante this week, training for 12 hours yesterday to master two dances ahead of Saturday’s show.
‘The day started at 10am, we have had three training sessions, so double what we normally do,’ says Alesha. ‘There are stumbling blocks all the time. You find that last bit of energy. If I have to stay late then I will.’
And Matt’s more than happy to put in the hours. ‘I feel Alesha’s working me hard, but my job is to make her achieve,’ he says. ‘Maybe 10am until 10pm is too much, but I will support her all the way. If she wants to call me in the middle of the night to ask me about a step then I would be quite happy.’
The couple are also reeling from seeing Kelly and Brendan in the dance-off. ‘It’s finally hitting home that we can be at the top of the leader board and then be in the bottom two,’ says Matt.
‘Both of us are very tired, we are finding it difficult. Alesha is struggling, they are two very complicated routines. She does find it difficult to do these two routines and is nowhere near ready for music yet.’
‘Alesha is so upbeat normally but the pressure is on and it can get too much sometimes. We worked for too long and too hard today.’
And with the competition getting more intense, Alesha admits she is feeling the pressure. ‘Lots of things go through your mind,’ she says. ‘It is brain overload. When you get upset you get even more upset for the fact that you are upset. I think that it is really silly. Being upset gets in the way when you want to progress. I feel like I have wasted time and not progressing. When I am tired it is really hard to snap out of it.’
Despite their tiredness, it seems the couple are really going for it this week – and we’re sure their rigorous training will be a real wake-up call for the other competitors and the judges!
