Did he jump or was he pushed? John Sergeant QUITS Strictly Come Dancing

 JOhn and Kristina

I predict a riot.

John Sergeant has sensationally quit Strictly Come Dancing this morning. Poor John!

In a statement, he said: “The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far.”

John snd Kristina

John and Kristina will be dancing a “farewell dance” on Saturday night’s show.

Judge Arlene Phillips said: “I’m always sad if a contestant leaves of choice, because you are always expecting to let the public vote them in or out – but John is his own person and he has his own reasons for doing this.

She was asked if she felt responsible for his departure, she said: “Not really. If you look back, we’ve actually been quite nice on this programme.”

She admitted Sergeant had provided many “funny, funny moments”.

Arlene added: “Last week’s performance was an improved performance. There wasn’t a judge who didn’t say that.”

In his statement, Sergeant, who was partnered with Russian dancer Kristina Rihanoff said: “I am sorry to say I have decided to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

“It was always my intention to have fun on the show and I was hoping to stay in as long as possible.”

The former journalist said he would like “thank Kristina and all those viewers who have been rooting for me through the series”.

BBC One controller Jay Hunt added: “We are very sad to see him go.”

In order to avoid another embarressing situation at the BBC ..he was pushed. The other “contestants” should now do the honourable thing and quit the “competition” and leave the lunatics at Broadcasting House to run their assylum.

I hope the bullying judges are happy with their work.

can we get our money back?

    Hi RJP,

I’m inclined to agree with you over this! It’s spoilt the show now hasn’t it!

    Money back indeed!

  • C M Ahronson

It is such a shame that John has quit, and I do not believe it was his choice to do so. If the BBC don’t think that someone is up to the challenge of the dance contest then they should not invite them on to the programme in the first place. Kristina has done a wonderful job in teaching John and he put his all into it. I, for one, will not be watching it anymore.

  • Wendy D

Well said, RJP – it’s unfair on those who’ve voted for John and unfair on him. I’m sure he must have been put under pressure. So much for public participation programmes.

  • Roz

It is a shame that he is leaving like this. Perhaps the BBC shouldn’t pick people that they know have a lesser chance of being able to dance well. Thanks John for entertaining us! After all the show is supposed to be light entertainment.

  • Tina Edwards

I agree with C M Ahronson, they should not invite contestants who differ so much in ability and age, if they only want good dancers in the contest. My husband and I feel disgusted that the judges have hounded JS out, he did not make the rules.

I think that John and Christina should be allowed to do a dance each week just to please the public. I’m very sad to see them go. To stop this happening again contestants should be chosen from a certain age bracket ie teens to 35. The young and agile who manage the Gym every day.

  • C Dickson

I agree with Roz, don’t invite older people onto the show if the dancers and judges can’t take the competition whether its the popularity of that celebrity or their dancing. I have just watched James try and back track on what he said at the end of the show on Sunday when Cherie was voted off. He needs to be reminded that it is an entertainment show and thatxon he doesn’t need to remind viewers how to vote, it was his time to go and that’s the way it goes, now to have a moan at John for leaving, well how much ridicule should a person be expected to take?

  • Charlie

I am gutted that John has been forced out of Strictly. Arlene is being two faced saying she regrets John has left. I would like to see her quit now. The show has now been spoiled. As for James Jordan, he is not worthy of any comment! What on earth does the lovely Ola see in him!

  • john campbell

Ah well, I daresay I’ll find something else to keep me amused on Saturday evenings – I don’t think the BBC can provide it though………………..

  • lynn munn

the judges and james jordan should be ashamed of themselves, john was 64 look at the others cherie lunghi trained in dancing, rachel stevens/heather small….both singers…..austin healey …..sportsman etc……..why put a show on with public vote if judges and dancers cant handle they are noty popular.i
if it is to be a serious dancing competition put one on then see viewing figures plummet, john tried his best and didnt admit to being a dancer….and took it all in spirit show was meant for then nast comments started ,strictly will be poorer show now

  • 60 year old viewer

John’s intelligent, likeable, a good speaker and writer, he’s funny and a humane voice in the political arena. And that’s what we should respect him for. Just as we should respect the other contestants and the professionals for some amazingly good dancing. People are good at different things. To want him to win a dance competition is the same as allowing celebrities who can’t write to dominate the book market. In any case, what about the others, the good dancers – how must they feel if he stays and they go? Buy his book instead! Have him back to take Bruce’s role next series!

  • Voice of reason

It was a shame to see John leave the show last Saturday. But there are better dancers on the show. I think that when Cheri was kicked off, It really hit John. Good dancers were being kicked off and he was staying in. It seems to me that the judges did go a little far and so did james, but they were only speaking the truth. By John bowing out, it shows that he is a real gentleman.
