It Takes Two: Comments

Tonight’s It Take’s Two was a rollercoaster wasn’t it?

Firstly there was an interview with John and Kristina about the day’s events and John explained his actions; how he felt he should step aside. I felt really sorry for Kristina who said she tried to change his mind but she supported his decision.

So we have a very sombre 20 minutes of interview with them and we all felt very sorry for John Sergeant.

THEN…there was an interview with James Jordan, Kate Garraway and Anton Du Beke. James said that he thinks John’s decision is one of the most selfish in Strictly history and that John wants the whols day to be about him! He was really forceful and the whole studio went silent! Did you see Claudia, Kate and Anton’s faces?!

Kate and Anton actually kind of agreed with him (though not to a massive extent); and I have to say I can see where he’s coming from.

However,  I have just had a very long conversation with my big sister and she had a right go at me and said that we should all read between the lines and listen to what John isn’t saying. Meaning that he left because all the other dancers have been quite nasty and he felt he couldn’t stay. Also, that Arlene and Criag have been banging on for weeks at how he shouldn’t be there and then all of a sudden they are filled with “Great sadness” that he has quit. Good point!

Well, we are all entitled to an opinion – what’s yours?

    My daughter called me and said ‘where were you when you heard the news?’ I am old enough to remember that iconic question re the assassination of John Kennedy (she was being ironic!) but it’s amazing how Strictly has grabbed the imagination of the British public. I think the BBC should give John a huge bonus for putting Strictly on the news agenda big time.

    I think James Jordan is a complete ignorant arrogant ass, to say what he did this evening on it takes two was just complete rubbish….John Seargeant was cruelly bullied in my opinion into this decision by the judges and comments made by dancers such as James. This show is 98% on t.v. to raise money for a worth cause Children in Need, it is a dance show yes but also a show of entertainment and enjoyment to which John contributed greatly, and come on lets face it the judges would judge even a herd of elephants so long as they get their money in the bank…

    In my view this shabby episode ranks alongside the Ross / Brand incident. In fact its worse – bullying even though John S says not. All the judges should be booted off for their disgracful comments in the last few days. They should vote and shut up – if they want to judge a professional dance comp go elsewhere. In my view this has killed the programme though the BBC will try and ride the wave – what do they do next year only hire young people who have dance experience like Jill Halfpenny, that Dixon woman, etc etc. To save the programme you need new judges a new format and no Bruce

    reaading between the lines i also think it is because of the nastiness to John from other dancers and thier partners made John Sergeant quit he was dammed if he didnt and dammed if he did, typical tv you cannot win.

    Yes, I agree with your big sister! The judges has been horrible to them and are now changing there tune 180 degrees. Craig Horrible was shown on BBC TV where he walk passed John and Christina and shouted that if he had a zero he would have given them a zero. More important is the anger in his voice. Now he makes as though John is the one in the wrong to leave. Is that the kind of person we want as a judge on the show? Please BBC think carefully before you ask him back for next year!!

    They were bullied of the show and the decent man John is, he decided not to put Christina through any more of that.

    Just a last point for the judges and professional dancers to remember – It is the public spending money on the voting that is paying your fat salaries.

    I was absolutely incensed at the comments of “It’s all about me” James Jordan this evening on ITT…

    I can’t believe how he can say that John wants to make it all about him, then he c**ks on in a totally selfish and sour-grapey manner, clearly demonstrating that in fact, he considers the show to be all about, err … him! And then to do a TOTAL U-turn on his comments of Sat night is just priceless and quite frankly, plain dim.

    John clearly felt that his position was untenable and I too, bet that there was a lot of nastiness going on behind the scenes that John alluded to, but didn’t declare outright, and that we will never know about in fine detail.

    How grim it must have been for him to be among a group of such precious people.

    It’s light *entertainment*. It’s a bit of fun (or meant to be) in these tough times that we’re all facing. Good grief people, let’s get this in perspective. Maybe JJ should take a trip out to Iraq or the earthquake site in Indonesia if he can keep his toys in his pram for long enough…

    James Jordan should grow up a bit – tho he is getting on a bit in dancing terms ;-) – before he gets booted out of the Strictly pool of dancers altogether. There are many other younger and better dancers than he *clamouring* to be let in, along the lines of Brian Fortuna (who himself last week mentioned the ‘advanced age’ of some of the pro-dancers!)

    John, I was angry and v upset at the treatment that you’ve received and want(ed) to slap James freakin’ Jordan around his smarmy blinkin’ chops.

    Grrr!

    John has the sense to know that the tabloids will turn the show into a dogfight. Strictly is not a political arena. Dance really matters and good dancing should be rewarded. He’s done the right thing. If he didn’t step aside the show would centre round ‘personality’, ‘celebrity’ and stop being an opportunity to really appreciate the beauty of dance. Politics comes second when we’re enjoying the expressive arts in a light entertainment format (but still bloody good, watch those professionals)! John could take over from Bruce next series.

    John was bullied out of the show. This would not only have affected him and his dance partner but also their families. I think it’s a damn shame this is allowed to happen, bullying should not be tolerated in any form. All the judges should do the decent thing and resign, who the hell do they think they are? As for that James Jordan character, he should not be allowed to return to the show. His behaviour was very unprofessional, he was slagging John off, right, left and centre last week and now he’s trying to turn it around to make it look like it’s John’s fault.

    I will not watch the show from now on; I will not support this kind bullying.

    I don’t want to see anybody who can’t dance on this show. If it’s a dancing competition (Come Dancing) then that’s what it should be. Vet all contestants prior to the show and drop the ‘obviously’ can’t dance individuals, because if the public support them for too long them we get this ‘the really good ones put in so much practice’ comments (ala James Jordan/Cherie) and what’s the point of no hopers being in the show. Why are they there? No more vote for your favourites.

    I am so glad that John has dropped out, but I would have preferred him to have been voted out.
    I can’t understand people wanting to keep him in at the expense of the better dancers.
    The competition is for the best dancer not a best comedy act, and it has ruined the show for me.
    I hope next year they do not choose to have someone as old and with the stature of John, who any fool can see they are never going to be able to compete.

    (1) This year profits from phone voting do not go to Children in Need.
    (2) Chris Parker and Kate Garraway did not resign from Strictly even though they received a lot of flak and hostile press.
    (3) I don’t think one should withdraw from a competition because you have a cruise booked – Tom managed to get married and stay committed to the competition and his partner Camilla.
    (4) John should have stayed and laughed all the way to the bank!
    (4) The judges were being honest about John’s abilities – they are passionate about their subject & tell it like it is. John was able to stand up to Mrs Thatcher after all.

    I am disgusted at the way this excellent show has turned out. Members of the public vote for their favourite person who not always is the best dancer. No doubt the whole of Northern Ireland votes for Christine Bleakly and friends and relatives vote for their own respective celebrity and again not necessarily the best dancer. The public voted for John because they liked him. He should never have been forced to feel that he should leave. I do not vote for John but I do feel strongly for those who do. I vote for Christine and Matthew – why? Because I am Christine, my husband is Matthew and because I really like her personality. The judges should bring John back and put their pride in their pockets and apologise. The show has been spoilt as far as I and hundreds probably thousands of others are concerned.

    The programme “Strictly Come Dancing” is surely a programme about non dancers learning to dance, so they should be judged on their dancing, therefore the judges and the general public should judge on the “Dancing”, and NOT personalities, circus acts or side shows. They are there to judge, as the title states DANCING – that is what the programme is all about. IF THE PUBLIC ARE GOING TO VOTE, VOTE PROPERLY. Perhaps this should be made clear at the beginning of each programme.

    I am now convinced that Strictly Come Dancing is a fix. As a semi-professional dancer, I have never seen a Paso Doble danced so well, as Austin and Erin tonight. Before it went to the judges, I anticipated a full score of 10’s all round. I have said all along in this series, put in dancers as judges and get rid of choreographers, tonight I wonder if it was right. I can, under no circumstances, this week agree with Len Goodman, the score of 10, should only be given if the dance footwork is perfect, I have seen Len give a score of 10 to less perfect footwork over the past few weeks, but, tonight I have to disagree with him totally. If the judges are getting paid upwards of £40,000 for the series, I would like to put my name forward as a judge for SCD 2009. I can produce all of my certificates if required.

    just wondering why is it that the show is only for celebs and not for us non celebs everytime i watch this show i always say i would love to be there doing all them dances but cant unless i become some sort of a celeb i dont thnk tha is fair at all !
