John Sergeant: An Open Discussion and Musings

 JOhn and Kristina

What a furor! (It’s a word look it up).

Well it’s going to go down in history isn’t it?

Much the same as people now say, “Where were you when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon?”, the 19th November, 2008 will now go down in history as The Day John Sergeant Quit Strictly Come Dancing.

Henceforth, this day shall now be referred to as Black Wednesday or The Day The Earth Stood Still or Popular Culture Gone Insania. Take your pick.

Now, I have a little theory and it’s not a crazy conspiracy theory, it’s an informed intelligent theory – I am a blogger after all. Now I’m friends with a few people who have worked in the television industry so I’m talking with some experience here. Last night my friends (we shall call him Mr X) predicted that the”BBC will push him out, you just wait”. Pretty good Mystic Meg skills I think!

I think that the BBC will have looked at the number of votes for John and would have seen that he was way above a lot of the other dancers. Subsequently they would have realised that John and Kristina may NEVER have been in the bottom two; giving them a clear path to the final.

I don’t think that John has an ego big enough to think “Hey the people love me so much that I could really win this”. He MUST have had some info from the producers.

Having said that, I could of course be totally wrong.

I am really disappointed that he has quit as I do think it makes a mockery of the show.

What do you all think?

    Hi,
I’m so pleased that John has decided to quit. I think John is a fantastic guy but dancing was not his scene really, and is the programme a joke really. No it isn’t. I don’t blame John he has been put in this position, I blame the organisers, because they make the choices – and its about people with at least the potential to get to the final. I think its one of the best programmes on TV at this moment and whilst John gave it his best effort he just isn’t ever going to be at the standard that others have reached. He has at least realised that and good for him. To the organisers please look at the people you choose carefully, for it is entertainment we know it is also a wonderful show to watch, don’t spoil it, by forcing people to be made fools of, and that for me is what was happening to John. He is too nice a guy for that. John carrying doing what you do best.

The programme is about people learning to dance. It is not for professional dancers.First and foremost it is about entertainment! John Sargent is entertaining. If you remove the entertainment the programme is pointless!
If John Sargeant is too old, then so is Bruce and the elderly judge on the panel and the woman on the panel.
Those people who support John and his wonderful dancing partner should boycott the programme, and when the ratings fall, and the BBC lose customers, they will sit up and pay attention. As for the programme,it has lost it’s appeal to me,and I will not watch it.

we should all apall bullying, and condemn all those responsible, the BBC shouold sack those responsible and cancel the show and compensate children in need

Furore is a word!!! And a great word to describe current events….. never watched scc before this series but have been greatly entertained, tv’s never been so good on a saturday evening. John S made it entertaining, which I thought was the point? Of all the judges Craig is the only one to stick to criticising the dance rather than the person and he even acknowledged that entertainment plays a part when he gave John & Kristina a 1 for entertainment. Arlene Phillips in her courting of publicity to air her views has behaved poorly, and I can’t recall quicker u-turns being undertaken by anyone other than a politician than she has managed since John pulled out. As for the dancer who partnered Cherie Lunghi- not had enough publicity to massage the ego and decided to jump on the John bashing band wagon eh?
BBC don’t come out of this very well overall- is anyone else as surprised as I to realise that no money from votes is going to Children in Need this year- haven’t seen anything on BEEB’s website to advise people of this- poor show Isay!
