Oh. My. God. Chris Hollins and Ola Jordan have been crowned Strictly Come Dancing 2009 Champions in an amazing final!

Chris looked shocked when Tess announced them as winners, and Ola burst into tears. They had scored marginally lower than fellow finalists Ricky and Natalie but came out on top with the all important public vote.

I am actually really really happy for Chris and especially Ola as she has worked really hard this series and been great to watch.

Chris really performed amazingly. First with a top notch Foxtrot, then a perfect scoring Charleston and they topped it off with a Dirty Dancing inspired showdance.

Runners up Ricky and Natalie put up a good fight with a tanalising Quickstep, a sexy cha cha and a “liftastic” showdance. I thought they might have edged it with the showdance but Chris and Ola proved to be just too popular.

Len said earlier in the show that Ricky might be beaten but he was the better dancer.. I’m sure that won’t be much comfort for him.

Did the right couple win? I think so yes.

  • neil

judges can say what they want,a dancer can do fancy lifts, but chris you performed the best lift of the night ,you lifted the trophy.

    • Kelly

I agree Neil. Chris was just better on the night.

  • Carolyn Davies

Strictly come dancing is strictly not about dancing and no the best couple did not win. It was more about a popularity contest than a dancing competition. The final should have been Ali and Brian and Ricky and Natalie. I will not be watching the next show.

    • Ken J

Absolutely spot on Carolyn, the best celebrity DANCERS were Ali Bastian and Ricky Whittle by a mile. Unfortunately now the show has attracted voters that go for personalities who can only do knockabout routines, cleverly choreographed to cover their shortcomings. Proper Ballroom Dancing is losing out.

Past series have usually found the right winner, but this year produced the worst ever. At least the Christmas special was won with style by Ali and Brian. Their were five very good dances in the Christmas show and one that was definitely not, by the BBC Sports Correspondent.

  • Anne

It just goes to show, how the Brits vote, its like X factor, the best singer did not win!

I said earlier, that Ricky should win, but most probably won’t as Chris is a popular chap! Shame really as it is a dancing competition, but apparently it is all about who progresses from the start…

  • Misbah

That’s very true Caroline. It’s very unfair that Ali & Brian had to go.
To be honest, Chris did not even deserve to be in the semi finals.
It never looked like a final and was a shame.

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

    chris great!!!!!!!! Ricky rubbish!!!!

  • Alan

Well done Chris and ola. I think their popularity has been due to the fact that chris has had a struggle learning to dance. His attitude to the competition makes me want to have a go. I definately will be watching the next show. Ricky made it all look to easy and seem effortless, whilst they have been great contestants, Chris and ola are a hit with us non-dancers for the week to week improvement they have shown us. Well Done!

  • ALan

When the better team who tried just as hard and put just as much effort, heartache and time in, do not win, what is the point of the competion. I will not be watching the show again as I already know the worst couple will win because of the sympathy vote for the under dog. The show is no longer entertaining.

  • john/m

what a farce, just a money raiser

  • Juvi

I am sure your mentality would never change! Who the hell on the earth would say Chris knows to dance.
    Shame on those who promotedChris.

  • rossie

Another rubbish decision…we all including Chris and Ola knows who the real winner is…well done Ricky and Natalie, you guys were amaaaaaazing!

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

Personality wins! Ricky Whittle hasn\’t got any! good looks aren\’t everything. Feelings and emotion count in everything in life. Ricky too \"clinical\" with his dancing with no \"personality\" that\’s why the public voted for him. I\’m so glad Chis won!! Just shows you can be good and something and have feelings! Something that 20 something people don\’t have these days!! Success means nothing unless you appriciate it ! Ricky doesn\’t appriciate what he\’s got cos he\’s good looking and know\’s it too much! True Justice! Great !! Congratulations again Chris ! Love to meet you with my husband! XXXX

  • Jason

This is a classic example of why blacks don\’t do well in competitions which rely on opinions to select the winners. No matter how they stick to the guidelines, produce the goods and entertain they will seldom ever take the title. It was a dancing competition and the best and most entertaining dancers of the series, unfortunately, were robbed of their rightful place as number 1. Well!!!

  • Misbah

    Personality wins! Bull shit!!!!!!!!!!!
How I wish u had a bit of sense of humour to judge a personality!
Biased people like you spoilt the show by voting for Chris.

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

Alan , you are a saddo, life is all about the best people who are honest and sincere. Chris is the right person to win stictly because if you take your \"blinkers\" of life of you will realise life is about \"balance\" and slimy so called \"perfectionists\" like Ricky. Chris is the example all men should follow! Total gentleman with someones wife! Perfect role model you should follow! Fullstop! xx

  • Anonymous

Why do the British public like a loser? What’s the matter with success? Ricky is an outstanding entertainer and his dances with Natalie were legendary. The wrong guy won-

  • rossie

what personality are you talking about that Ricky doesnt have. you know quite well woman without a name that no matter what Ricky does, people like you would vote for Chris anyway. and let’s face facts my dear lady Ricky is not rubbish. u know that as much as i do

  • http://stricktly val phillips

Chris was so good tonight I loved every dance you did. Well done

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

    Misbah,
You are obviously not a gentleman with your language!
Narrow minded comes to mind. Pleas eopen your mind. Chris had more personality in his little finger. You cannot see the bigger picture because you are on this website replying! I’m going to bed with my wonderful husband who had thoroughly enjoyed seeing Chris and Ola win “Strictly”!! Good Night and get a better life! Take care! I’m going now to spend time with my hubby! Have you got a partner to balance your life with? xxxx

  • rossie

@ 14… you just sound like you’re just a hater. hates excellence. may be you’d want to come out and say u dont like Ricky because he’s just too good for your liking or probably for other reasons. you know what it is. pure dislike for an outstanding dancer

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

I cant believe how narrow minded people are in life! Sign of the times how shallow people are. Aim for perfection but put some feeling in it. Get to bed everyone and wake up with a balanced rested selfless personality. Rare these days???? xxxx

  • Jason

By implication are you saying that Ricky was not a gentleman. What has Ricky done to show he is not sincere or honest. You can’t get as good as him by not being committed and sincere with your work. Ricky is the example of becoming a true professional not propped up by popularity. Ricky has a talent that he worked hard to improve to a PROFESSIONAL STANDARD,even if he made it look easy!!!!Good on him. Ricky and his partner are the true winners

  • http://stricktly val phillips

    Didnt Alysha win Jason?

  • rossie

getting personal now mrs ‘hubby’. may be watching chris win would help you win the husband over again. good night!!

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

    Rossie,
Get over yourself. I\’m excellent at what I do that\’s why my comments are as such Please grow up! Yes Ricky was a good dancer but if you had experience in life (which from your superficial text says NO) you would realise life means why Chris WON \"Strickly\". Reply in 20 years when you you are talking about! Do you fancy Ricky? I fancy my husband so I\’m ok. I recognise life\’s balance. Do you? Take care and have a lovley xmas! Focus on that. xxxxx

  • Al

Got to say i didnt think chris deserved to be in the final…..BUT he won me over on the night!
proved he deserved it by dancing better than he,s ever done!
ricky was great as usual, and he,ll know he was better.
but lets not get to serious…ITS ENTERTAINMENT

  • rossie

you’re saying a lot about yourself now mrs ‘happy happy’ your hubby’s still waiting…lol

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

Dont need to win hubby again. You were getting personal by swearing. Hope you have a nice life.

  • rossie

I agree with you Al, that\’s why people shouldn\’t use words like \’rubbish\’ to describe a brilliant dancer!

  • Jason

Yes she did, but at no other time in Stricly did personality factor in the competition. Through out all the series they stuck to the concept of it being a dance competition. The best and most elequent, exciting and most entertaining dances won. Please tell me from the result if this is still the case. It is like sitting an exams getting all the right answers, with all the sequenced logic and still failing.

  • rossie

still there? haha i thought you had a better place by your husband’s side.. mind you i’m not here to discuss me. good night!

  • http://trishr@talktalk.net chris was the best lifter of the night. Patrick swayze could have only done better. NOT ricky whittle!!!!

I think we are getting carried away. We are assuming a lot about everyone. All superficial impressions. Media creations we are all \"sucked\" into. Ricky and Chris are nice people. Hope they all have a nice xmas . Let\’s all have a nice xmas (however perfect we think we are?) all on the website and all stricly contestants. It\’s a biased contest which unfortunately depends on peoples opinions.Happy xmas everyone . xxxxd

  • sarah

Chris does not deserve to win. Ricky is a far better dancer. This a popularity and money making competition and not dancing competetion. Ali should of been in the Final. When John Seargent replaced more talented dancers due to popularity everyone complained. The judges votes should have been considered. I will not be watching Strictly again.

  • rossie

oh and i’m sure you’re still there…@24 you claim you’re excellent at what you do and you do not recon an excellent performance deserves a prize?

  • Jason

Take care all. No need to get personal. They will be back for the Christmas Special (Round 2). Until then!!! Keep Tapping…away!!. Enjoy your season.

    Good Night!!!!

  • Misbah

Rossiee, High time to wish you GOOD NIGHT and hope you have a wonderful dream about Chris !! I’m sorry his PERSONALITY !

  • rossie

happy Christmas love. and forgive me if you think i got personal. i din’t mean to attack anyone. sweet dreams

  • rossie

good night everyone… off to watch match of the day. not ready to go to bed yet

  • carol

maybe not the best, but he put his heart and soul in it and for that he deserved to win, ricky you were good but chris – thank you, you made us mere mortals believed that we could do it too, xxx

  • Johnny

Good entertainement over all! But quite unfortunate the best dancer lost. If judges marks can’t count, why use them in the first place?

  • patty

Ricky was a far better dancer than Ali let alone Chris.
As the judges said, Ricky was in a different league. He
thoroughly deserved to win no doubt, but the show is
obviously not about the talents or merits, it\’s about the
race and popularity. This is also true with other talent
shows – xfactor, britain\’s got talent and so. You haters
can cheat and rob the blacks but you can\’t stop them.
You have good examples – the President of the world,
Barack Obama, the Williams sisters to mention but few.
Sorry Ricky, we all, including the racists know you and
your gorgious dace partner Natalie were the winners by a million miles. Cheers.

  • Sue

I found it difficult to listen to Aleshia, with her inane comments and awful English and then the a man who shouldn\’t have been in the final won! I shall not bother to watch again.

  • roy robinson

The best Dancers lost. The winners spent most of the series milking the sympathy vote to cross the finishing line—–whats new

  • Sue

I don’t think it was racism, Chris is simply on Breakfast TV every morning. I wanted Ricky to win, the best dancer, but I have never seen him on TV before. He was unknown to most people.

  • Modes

I am not British and I do not live in Britain but I am a fan of BBC programmes especially Strictly Come Dancing. When Ali and Brian were voted off at the Semis, i thought it was a massive error of jugement. Chris and Ola are good entertainers but to tell me that they are the deserved winners against Ricky and Natalie is absolute miscarriage of justice! Unless the system is based on merit, I am afraid BBC would be loosing a lot of fans! The Judges are good enough to decide the winner of the competition.

  • Ken J

Having read all the comments so far, I would like to say to those who voted for Chris Hollins, enjoy your moment. To those of us that love the kind of Ballroom dancing that Ali and Ricky produced, I say at least we can look back and say that we saw some great stuff. I will have fond memories of those two.

I don\’t think that anyone will disagree with me when I say that once again the BBC\’s blatant and crude changing of the rules, especially in the semi-final to suit their own ends is the worst part of all this.

The show is flagging badly now and a pale shadow of what it was.

  • Anya

Oh please there is some really muddled thinking here. Firstly to those half wits that think this decision was racist. How did Ricky even get to the final then and how come Alesha won last year? Plenty of black people have done really well on this show.

Secondly, dance is as subjective as any other art form and to say either of this pair was rubbish is damn right insulting to both of them in the context of SCD. this is not the Royal Ballet or even a serious Ballroom Dancing competition, if you want that watch something else.

Poor Chris has has SUCH insulting comments on the web that I am sure it made people of fair minded dispossition evne more determined to vote for him than might otherwise have been the case, I am delighted that for once the Mr Nice Guy won….you can be a winner in more than one way.

  • Modes

Cf. 43 “He is unknown to most people” That statement tells why it is a popularity contest and not a dancing competition where the best dancer should win. Unfortunately, the most popular because “on BBC Breakfast tv every morning” won. Ricky congratulations! You have won the gorgeous Natalie and that’s the most important price.

  • http://mmcvitty@yahoo.co.uk mmcvitty

I am delighted that Chris and Ola won competition. he may not have been the best dancer but he has charm.Ola is a beautiful woman and she and her husband James helped Chris to move house. I hope they keep in contact after the show is over. I wish someone would do a programme about after the show and let us know if the dancers keep in touch with each other. am a senior citizen and spent 30 pounds voting for Chris and Ola.

  • Anya

I knew neither of these people before SCD as don’t watch Soaps and not interested in sport. I wasn’t even interested in Chris until he was so poorly marked for that remarkable Charleston when the judges put that insipid Charleston of Ali’s above him that looked like a limp rag doll. Then I started to noticed that he was constantly pilloried and undermarked and took it all on the chin. I warmed to him and I think to make unkind remarks about someone just because you do not like them is the height of arrogance. Poor Ricky his fans seemed to be in the habit of doing just that and probably lossing him votes if the SCD Forum is anythign to go by!

  • Ken J

If you new anything about dance Anya, you would know that Ali’s Charleston was technically superb, and to put the dance of Chris Hollins above that is, quite frankly ludicrous. Ola Jordan has done all the work in their routines and covered his many shortcomings.

In fact to compare any of his dances in a favourable light compared to Ali and Ricky’s is unbelievable.

He figures well in personality, never in dance.

  • http://stricktlycomedancing leny

    Undeserved winner..!!!!!
For Ola yes !!!…for Chris NO..!!!
All this personality thing is wrong to what this competition is about Maybe we should rename it Stricktly come under-dog!!!……They all have nice pesonalities but Chris hasnt got the standard of dancing compared to Ricky and Alli,, he should not have be in the final!!…Out of the last 7 series only two finals had deserved thier title ,,,Mark R and Jill H….maybe Alysha.D too, but not others. last year a person won even though he made so many mistakes…..this is unfair to the ones that were out right GOOD dancers and winners ! This thing about the journey is noncence ,,,,its about who can DANCE !!..maybe the program ratings have dropped because of this !!!

  • Deeemocracy

The people have spoken and chose the… constipation over the phenomenon.
Well, that’s democracy in action for you all.
And the results are clear – when the uneducated, lay and unprofessional intervene you get such results. The argument for “but he was the more popular!” is hilarious. if the choice is on popularity, why the dancing at all. Let the couples sit and chat each week and the audience to make the selection. Why bother the dancing at all?!
(Which comes to show that democracy is futile – even Hitler was elected with a democratic procedure)

Moreover, the progress of Ricky was way bigger than the one of Chis’.
It was just not that obvious to the lay people.
Bruno clearly said that those lifts take YEARS AND YEARS even for the professionals to master. And Ricky made them in 4 months.
Chris at the mean time started well (1st show) and then went down and then went up (from Blackpool).
Compared to Ricky he is a Saturday night drunk disco dancer.

  • Leslie

Judges bang on about how it\’s a dancing competion, IT IS NOT, it\’s a popularity contest and last nights final proved it, full stop. I watched the final without voting and fell on the floor laughing when the results were given, the BBC wont be conning money out of me again. I wouldn\’t expect the judges to agree with me as they are paid by the BBC, they as professionals ought to hang their heads in shame for being associated with such a show.

  • Steve

Just a few observations. Why not get all the judges comments instead of having corny jokes from Bruce Forsyth taking up so much time. How about replacing him with someone like Dale Winton – or am I treading on dangerous ground ! The race issue is a load of tosh. I never saw Rickie as black. I saw him as a great dancer. Lose the chip !! Change the name to Strictly Come Personality with the subtitle You May Be Able To Dance – So What. I have nothing against Chris, but he really shouldn\\\’t have been in the final. Lastly, get rid of Alesha and keep Darcy, she knows what she is talking about.

  • MARY W

I thought Natalie looked prepared to go swimming or to an exercise class, not to a glamorous ballroom, in the Show Dance. Unflattering words such as ‘she’s like a bean pole with tinsel stuck on’ crossed my mind – detracted and distracted from their excellent dancing and lifts. For once the Costume Dept let down a contestant. Ricky kept the glamour, pity his partner didn’t. Glamour is part of the show. I changed my vote to Chris and Ola.

  • Ken J

I agree with you MARY W about the costume, but you changed your vote for just that!! All that magnificent dancing by RW counted for nothing because of that!!

Ola Jordan covered up so many of CH shortcomings with clever choreography. All he seemed to do was run about.

THe contributor on comment number 48, said that she or he spent £30 voting for Chris Hollins. Replicate that many times and that can be the only way that CH could have won, judging by the Forums. There should only be one vote per head.

I agree with Anya about the too personal comments about Chris Hollins being a reason for some of his votes.

Don\’t taint this Forum with complaints about race, please. I personally do not think that\’s the case and is totally unnecessary.

I am willing to accept that CH won the personality vote, but never the dancing. That accolade is shared by Ali Bastian AND Ricky Whittle for me.

In my opinion if this show is to go on, it will have to have a new title and format.

Whoever you vote for folks I hope that you agree with me that something has to change.

  • patty

sue, so what you\’re saying is that the show is a popularity
show and not the talent show that it should be. Well, that\’s what we\’re talking about. It\’s unfair to the talents,
don\’t you think? which ever way, popularity or racism being
the determinant factor is simply disgraceful and a big shame
This is supposed to be a civilized world but I suppose it\’s
a racilized one. However Ricky, hold your head up high, go
home knowing you were the true winner by all standards.
You were never supposed to be in the bottom two ever in that
show. As judge Len said; you should go knowing you were
    simply the best.

  • Janet

This is a dance competition – Ali and Ricky were by far the best dancers – Chris is a nice guy and improved a lot! The judges should have more control of the voting – they got it right on the night. It worries me that the same voters will be voting in General Elections !!

  • patty

What\’s the name of the last female judge that joined in on
the panel? She is the one that doesn\’t know what she\’s
talking about and should be relieved of her duties as a judge not Alesha dixon. After that outstandingly superb last dance that Ricky gave that could not be faulted, even Greg couldn\’t fault that dance and gave Ricky a 10, This obviously blind or biased woman gave him a 9! robbing Ricky the perfect score of 50. Unbelieveable!

  • Dev

Anja, you are the half witted one here or you must be hopelessly naive not to know that race plays a big roll in
these competitions, or how do you explain last night\\\’s
results? I agree with the contributor on 40, I think Patty,
She or he is spot on – you can cheat and rub the blacks,
but you can\\\’t stop them now. Full Stop! If we allow them,
They can be brilliantly goooooood! I\\\’m white. I don\\\’t live
in Britain, but this is true all over the world.

  • Peter

Please patty. It’s quite clear the Ricky’s colour had nothing to do with it.

There is a clear prejudice in this country for bald men!

Just look and the past prime ministers, Maggie, full head of hair, won. John Smith, bald, lost. Blair, hair – won. Hague, bald – lost.

No No, it’s because he’s tall.

No No, it’s because he has no football connections.

Skin colour has nothing to do with it.

Was Ricky the best dancer? The experts gave him more points. yes 2 more! not a massive margin. The expects also scored two dances to Chris and two dances to Ricky. When they did the same dance, there was really nothing in it. Ricky started strong, and worked more hours then any of them week on week. Chris did massively well to compete in the same level as Ricky, and I think that he did. The real shame is that there had to be a winner. Well done to both.

Ali did a great ballroom, but she deserve to go when she did. She danced the worst that night.

  • vee fitch

Strictly come dancesaster!!!entertainment or not,it IS a dancing competition and i think the wrong couple won.whatever happened to the saying -may the best man win?ricky and natalie should have lifted that trophy.i think the organisers of this so called competition have a lot to answer for.i smelt a rat when they scrapped the dance off in the semi finals that should have seen chris and ola go out.also when judges scores did not count on the finals.they must think we are fools or what!!what a let down!what a dissapointment!what a diasater for this show!!what are they telling future generations;yes just go out even if you are rubbish, you will win on grounds of compassion.those who voted for chris should all be ashamed of themselves.what’s all this talk about chris having personality.chris who? Ricky has it all.lets face it-chris winning strictly is like jedward winning x factor!strictly has lost its shine.RICKY BAND NATALIE,YOU ARE THE UNCROWNED WINNERS! As for the so called chris fans, even chris himself knows it!BRITONS THINK!!!!

  • Tracey

I think the next series of Strictly needs to be really clear from the start that it\’s the best dancer that should receive the vote, not the most improved.

Ricky will be really upset, he\’s put so much work in and provided fantastic entertainment to be beaten by a much improved dancer but not a better dancer, who is probably better known by the viewers of Strictly, unfair.

  • http://n/k margaret

what a farce.the bbc have been taking every oppurtunity to boost ratings for the smug chris hollins.i turned on to itv last night as there was no way he should have been there. ali against ricky would have been fair .chris should have been out weeks ago.
i certainly won’t be watching next year.
    something doesn’t smell right.

  • Steve H

Let be honest the show is now getting weak. Last nights Grand Final was ruined as there were only two couples instead of three and to fill the time we had to endure the singing of Bruce and Aleshia, terrible!! Then it was clear who would win and it wasn\\\’t going to be the best dancers. I will watch it next year for the shear comedy value. For those of you who waste their money voting, I say give it to a worthwhile local charity. Merry Christmas
P.S Does anyone else think Bruce is well past his sell by date?

  • Julie F

The judges were clearly complicit in giving Chris and Ola the trophy- in terms of dancing Ricky was streets ahead and for the judges to suggest by their scoring that Chris was even close was a travesty. Chris produced routines with very few steps and the Lindy Hop, Charleston and show dance were all about his cheeky chappy routine ( and he’s a public schoolboy!). Ricky had genuine talent and had worked just as hard to develop it- and he DANCED!! The final move in the Lindy hop said it all- Chris pulling faces at the camera and Ricky carrying both girls. I feel I wated my money voting for Ricky; the BBC had alreday decided that he would not win.

  • vee fitch

New name for strictly;strictly come underdog!just bring your crap personality and pull silly faces and OH,ABILITY TO DANCE OPTIONAL!!What a load of rubbish.

  • Team Cola

Chris was much he is and inspiration to all people, he isn’t an actor who would have had dancing training he is a middle-aged man who has pulled off some pretty amazing dances throughout his Stricly journey. Ola has worked so had and she deserved to lift up that trophy his show dance was better then Ricky’s… All ricky did was basic steps and lifts that is showing off strength not dancing talent and ablilty, chris did an amazing job and his Charlston was amazing ive watchedd it back about50 times the best couple won not necessarily the best man but the best couple won..

  • Ken J

Calling all Ali and Ricky fans, and fans who support Dance.

I have asked the BBC and the BBC Breakfast team to explain why they withdrew the dance-off in the semi-final, robbing us of a chance of a great final. They don\’t seem very keen to reply. Now we all know why, don\’t we, but I would like to hear what they have to say.

You would think that they would try to deny any Bias, at least.

Flood them with e-mails and ask them the same question and any others you can think of. Don\’t let them get away with it lightly.

The one given the trophy,(I refuse to call him the winner), obviousy won through block votes as described in comment 48, and with a little help from his friends. There should only be one vote per head.

  • I L Ali + Brian

Ken J why should we do that it is just unfair amd unjust we the viewers are to blame not BBC if you are so bothered you could have voted for Rocky over and over the viewers vited not BBC

  • http://AnnMiller Ann Miller

Okay so Ricky Whittle CAN dance, but what was more pleasing to the eye? Ola and Chris looked vibrant, full of energy and fun, and they were very entertaining. They deserved to win after all of their hard work. Lets not forget Chris had not danced before, so he is in fact a TRUE winner. Class won out against cheapness.

  • I L Ali + Brian

Thank you Ann thats what i think to i believe that Chris has improved the most and he got full marks in one of his dances so he is just as good as Ricky maybe even better

  • Ken J

    Dear L Ali+Brian,

Its the BBC’s fault that the dance-off was shelved in the semi-final to suit their ends. I think that I have a valid point.

I respect your opinion very much, but I think we have a right to know.

  • I L Ali + Brian

Well everyone is entitled to there own opinion and i respect that and there you are commenting and saying your opinion and here i am commenting my opinion and i disagree with you to be blunt i dont see the point in you commenting again and again writing stiff just because you cant accept that Chris won.. and that is my opinion…

  • Ken J

Ann Miller, what are you on about, cheapness? In what context?

What was more pleasing to the eye? DANCE Ann, DANCE. And that came from the DANCER who was overlooked.

The running about of Chris Hollins. Class?

  • MARIAHELENA

The public should not be the one voting, it should be the judges, the public vote for popularity, not how good the singer or dancer is. I will not be wasting my time watching the next series .
Chris and Ola were not the best couple, they should have been gone out of the show long ago but Chris keep pointing out about his little legs and the public took pity of him, it was very unfair.. the two best couple that should have been in the finals is Ali and Brian — and Ricky and Nathalie– that would have been an honest win.

  • I L Ali + Brian

Actully for once I agree with you Ken…

  • Tracy Parker

What do people expect from the generally White voters of these programmes. If the competition has white and black people, a white person will always win in the end. Black people should vote, which I think they do not do. We were robbed again yesterday Ricky and his partner should have won. Ricky was a better dancer by far. As in X Faxtor, Danyl should have won.
This is Britain for you.Its always about the underdog or white over black

  • Beryl J

For Chris and Ola to have won has just made a mockery of this programme. After Brian and Ali were voted out at the semi finals I felt there was no longer a contest.

Brian and Ali along with Ricky and Natalie would have been the perfect final. I refused to watch the final and I will never watch Strictly again

  • Ken J

    Dear I L Ali+Brian,

So you agree with me that the DANCER was overlooked.

You agree with me that Chris Hollins just ran about?

  • I L Ali + Brian

    Partly…

  • Ken J

Spot on Beryl J, Well said.

  • I L Ali + Brian

Chris getting to the final wasn’t so bad everyone says it’s an outrage… But he has inspired me to start dancing again so it can’t be that bad can it…

  • Ken J

If its inspired you to dance, good for you. Regarding your comment number 81, thank you. Shall we call a truce?

  • I L Ali + Brian

Well I only said ‘Partly’ but depends on how you view Partly….

  • Al

cant believe all the fuss ,over an ENTERTAINMENT SHOW….a few months from now we,ll have forgotton who won…or lost!
and their careers will ALL be better for it!…hasn,t done past “losers” any harm!

  • Orly

I think Ricky and Natalie should of won!!!
The judges said their dances were mor ENTERTAINING but actually Ricky and Natalie deserved to win because they’re better dancers!!

  • Chris

Yes Ricky is the better dancer but the couple who gave the evening more fun and entertainment were Chris and Ola and that is what the show is supposed to be entainment. It is a competition only 1 winner but they all did well even the ones who were voted off ages ago.

  • BJ

Chris and Ola deserved to win, they gave more of a performance. Ball room dancing is not just about dancing ability it is about selling the dance and playing the part. Yes Ricky was the better dancer but he always seemed insincere when it came to an interview…..remember he is an actor at the end of the day!!!

The judges were bias this series the amount of times they told Chris off for singing along to the tunes whilst dancing but they never picked up on the fact that Ricky was mouthing the words during his first dance in the final……..if the judges are going to give criticism then at least be consistent with it rather than letting it pass on the couple they like more than the rest……Bruno is the worst for this and he should have left the show!

As for Ali she was not the perfect dancer she used to wobble and did not look very stable but she was very good at ball room, her Latin was terrible!!

At the end of the day the judges have their favourite that’s why the final decision goes to the public so to all the people who didn’t think that Chris and Ola deserved to be in the final or win it why not vent your anger at the general public and not show!!!

I am so please Chris and Ola won……..Ricky was a good dancer but he did not win the public over.plus i suppose the fight he had in a bar in Liverpool didn’t help his street cred either what kind of a man in the public eye on such a huge show and who had children for fans starts a fight in a bar???????

Nathalie had already won the American version of the show so let someone else win it.

Chris went on a true journey and the best couple won!! To be honest Ricky and Nathalie thought they had it in the bag and I loved the look of shock on their face when they lost pure classic…..just goes to prove you should not assume anything!!!

My final word is to all the nasty people who sent emails to Chris after Ali went out………….how childish can you be??? It is a game show the public obviously didn’t want Ali to win so get over it and don’t send snide horrible emails to a great dancer to put his confidence down and make him think he did not deserve to be in the final…..you people make me ashamed to be British!!!!!!

  • BJ

Oh and to the guy above Jason who played the Race card………………get a life you twisted little man \"oh black people never win anything\" do me a favour, there is always one who didnt get hos way so he plays the race card!!!

  • KEVIN (NIL POINTS)

Agree that Ricky is the better dancer and showed at start of the competition. However, Chris’s improvement was brilliant through his ability to enjoy the dance experience and deal with criticism but also down to Ola’s exceptional tuition skills and character. Gives hope to guys like me who are ‘strictly hopeless’ but wish can take a ‘brave’ lass and whisk her round the dance floor leaving her in one piece !! My wife keeps praying for the past two years for some improvement !!. Well done Chris, numero uno (but only just !!)

  • Ken J

To BJ, Ricky Whittle did not start a fight in a nightclub. He was accused of hitting a journalist with his car. A bit of a difference to your version.

Ali was a damn sight better than your choice. At least she danced rather than ran around.

Ricky and Natalie didn’t think they had it in the bag, they were very aware of the BBC Bias, loading it for their man.

I’ll only agree with you regarding the nasty letters, there is no need for that.

You call CH a great dancer. Tell me, how much dancing, I mean real dancing have you seen in your life? Obviously none.

  • Tracy Pilkington

i have always enjoyed this program until now! the bbc rigged it so that chris & ola won! the final should have been between ali & brian and ricky & natalie then it would\’ve been exciting as they were both good dancers after all is that not what this show was all about? so the public liked him but he wasn\’t as good as the 2 runners up!! i won\’t be watching next year unless the judges score holds a higher percentage!

  • roy

Lets “face” it ,Wallace and Gromit (aka Mickey Mouse) won the personality show last night ,just like last year and the best dancers lost.Talk about milking the sympathy vote.

  • Carol Phillips

Carolyn Davies is quite right. It was a travesty of justice, engineered by the BBC not having the dance off in the semi finals! Is it now a personality competition rather than a dnace competition? Ricky should have won by miles with Ali and Brian second. I have watched all the Strictly series, but I won’t be watching the next one!! X Factor here I come.

  • Mary Underwood

I agree with 2, 7 and 66 among others. I won’t be watching the show again.

  • Nigel

I would just like to say a huge well done to Chris and Ola. To all the people who think they didn’t deserve to win, I think it is clear why they did. Chris, whilst not being the better dancer, admitedly, could entertain in his dances. Remember, he is from neither a dancing backround nor an acting one. And to produce such entertaining dances such as the Charlston and his show dance, I think he deserved the trophy. My final point being that everyone has the right to vote on the program and therefore are entitled to their opinion, with the majority opinion being that they were better.

  • Ken J

The majority on this Forum do not agree with you. CH won because of block votes, such as is highlighted in comment 48

  • http://donothaveone.... Why call it Strictly, the worst dancer won?

Using friends lap-top but have to say that the word strictly must be re-moved from the title if the show returns next year or we band of tap-dancing pensioners will not watch again. Call the show a similer title like the US dancing with the stars or teaching a celeb. to dance but never, never use the word strictly again. It is an insult..The most amazing dancer who we heard so little from because he worked a long day and then re-hearsed in Liverpool so little video footage was of course wonderful Strictly dancer Ricky Whittle. Too much footage of Chris and Ola. We too ask why on earth was there no dance-off in the semi-finals, BBC you have had time to dream up an answer. 70 years plus pensioners who enjoy good dance…..

  • Anonymous

It really annoys me that people are saying that Chris and Ola didnt deserve to win. The show is all about the professionals teaching a beginner to dance. Whilst Ricky was technically better, Chris sold every dance and has picked himself up after every critism from the judges! And as for Ali and Brian in the final; which latin dance would she have done? the answer is none because she has the personality of a used tea bag and can’t sell a latin dance to save her life! For all the pathetic people who will not be watching next year I hope you enjoy 5 hours of adverts watching the x factor!

  • Anonymous

In response to number 69. My partner works for the BBC and the reason the dance-off was removed from this year was because of Tom Chambers and the voting farce last year. The production team knew that with two strong dancers such as Ali and Ricky there was a chance that the judges votes for them could have been tied therefore meaning that the public vote could not have saved Chris and Ola under any circumstances. So I suggest that before you start blaming the BBC, look to the people that held the power…the public. Oh and also there was a point in the night that Ricky had much more votes and then it changed so how could it have been rigged. Some people need to get it through their small minds that competetions where the public are spending money to vote is regulated by Ofcom so why would thay rig it?

  • Anonymous

ricky should have won not chris he sucks

  • Martin

To all of those disappointed that there wasn\’t a dance off in the semi-final – just look a the quarter final. I\’m not sure if the BBC will release the public votes for each contestant in each round, but one thing was for sure, Chris always got high (if not the highest) public vote. Chris was number one in the quarter final and Rickie was last (with Ali somewhere in between) on the public vote – just do the maths.

Therefore if there had been a dance off in the semi-final, it would have been between Ali and Rickie any way (as, in the case of a tie on points, the public vote carries the most weight). The questuon is, would Ali or Rickie then have got through to the final?

  • Ricky

People, disappointed or not, should not rubbush the personalities involved. Neither Chris not Ricky have anything to do with the voting system.

It is always risky usung public votes in any competition, as few people it appears have either the objectivity or appreciation of the judging criteria involved to be reliable judges.

Perhaps there should be a range of different prizes in Strictly, eg. for Most Improved dancer, Dancer with the Most Personality etc., so that this does not get confused with the \’best\’ dancer as many feared it did on Saturday night.

    Ricky

  • http://dorothy@msn.com dorothy ireland

I was very upsett. How can the british public be so gullable. Chris Hollins was obviously not the best dancer. It was not a popularity competition. How must Ricky Whittle feel. I am absolutely disgusted that the BBC can allow this to happen. It could actually only happen on the BBC. I will never watch strictly come dancing again. There is no point in having any judges, because they cannot decide. Absolutely a farse.

  • Lois

This result is a joke, Ricky definitely should have won. I knew they weren’t going to win I had the feeling since last weeks semi’s. Chris’s show dance was good, but I wished Natalie choreographed a better routine for Ricky that captioned the public more and didn’t just relied on his strength. Maybe a Michael Jackson inspired routine that was fast and fun, which showed his personality.
I’m fed up of this competition just being based on popularity. Also I got annoyed in the final as Chris’s dances seemed to be similar in style when benefited him. This result is a blood farce, it completely ruined by Birthday. I also can’t believe the person (response 48) spent £30 voting for Chris. I think the votes should be limited to 10 per household, what’s the point in running up a huge phone bill, it’s crazy.

  • rubyroo

Personally I thought the final show was fantastic.Having bought tickets for the live show I had wanted Ricky and Natalie to win. However, after seeing Chris and Ola, on the final night I thought they were amazing. The public alway love an under dog and Chris Hollins is such a great guy. Ricky was the best dancer overall but there was something special about Chris and Ola. Credit to both couples they worked incredably hard week on week – thank you for bringing so much pleasure to my saturday nights!

  • Ken J

In reply to 100, Anything in the Latin section that Ali did was always better than Chris Hollins\’ efforts. All he did was run around, his lack of any talent partly hidden by clever choreography. Your theory on why there was not a dance-off does not hold water. How do you now how the voting was going. If you were to read people\’s comments more carefully, you would have noticed that the rigging theory was not aimed at the voting, but the lack of a dance-off. And before you start talking about people with small minds (101), I suggest that you take a look in the mirror.

Your description of Ali having the personality of a used tea bag is pathetic and says an awful lot about your obviously low intelligence.

The public do not always love an underdog (107) when the underdog is so lacking in talent compared to the best.

  • Sorrel

How come I couldn\’t get through for a long time because the phone was engaged when I was trying to vote for Ricky Whittle. It\’s a fix!

You wanted a BBC personality to win and so the best dancer didn\’t. I won\’t be watching again.
    Rage Against Strictly!

  • Dejavue

The result was on the cards weeks ago, when Len Goodman made the point on the panel , that Ricky was in danger of being the best dancer but could come second in the end to a jack in the box dancer , just like the 2008 final.

  • Jake the peg

As far as I was concerned Ricky Whittle is not a celebrity

  • Vanessa

Ricky and Natalie were robbed just like Ali & Brian, the wrong couple were in the final, and to have won, just shows the competition is not about Dancing but only about BBC personalities. Ricky and Natalie you were the dancing stars of the show.

  • Martin Edminson

Once again the Brits have let themselves down with their preoccupation with supporting the underdog (great on the world stage, but not so good for TV), the public need to be reminded that this is a dancing competition not a popularity show. Srictly is not about ‘the journey’, or ‘jo blogs seeing themselves’ in Chris (who I’m sure is a lovely fella,)and voting for his effort, but about the best dancer. The Beeb producers need to recognise this public popularity voting is turning many off the show. This is the first time I’ve sat down and watched the show in its entirety and feel I’ve just wasted 16 weeks tuning into what I thought was a dancing show..I for one shalln’t be wasting my time again… I shouldn’t really be suprised I suppose… from what I saw Colin Jackson was robbed of the series 3 competition by the ‘loveable’ yet vaguely cringy Darren Gough (though I don’t believe this to be a race issue as stated in a previous comment) and looking at previous competitions there appears to be a disproportinate number of male winners to female, and we all know that women are more inclined to take the time to vote for their ‘favourite’ (most often a man)….come on BBC sort this out, Len said it all really when he said that Ricky was the best dancer but might (probably) not win…(too wordy I know, just felt this issue justified a rant)

  • Whatthe

Final Straw———is it true that Ricky has not been invited on the Strictly Come Dancing tour. Also reported to have danced while having a hernia——if that was Hollins ,it would have been on National TV with him weeping that he had won World War 3.
BBC has lost the plot and one more viewer for SCD 2010.

  • john baxter

Another Strictly ruined by the public vote which negates the judges professional opinion and turns the show into a personality contest not a dancing contest. It happened last year; again when Hingis came out in the first round whilst the lumbering Welsh boxer survived; and now again in the final. Both Ali & Ricky have more dancing ability in their little fingers than dear old Chris.Even he could not believe the outcome.

The public should control less points as they do not vote for the best dancers. Don’t worry BBC you will still get your telephone revenue.

  • http://waghorn Lois

Response to no: 114. Apparently it’s true on both accounts. Ricky didn’t want anyone to know; not even Natalie knew he had a hernia; as she would have made him pull out. Also he didn’t want the sympathy vote. I know if that was Chris he would had let the whole world know about it. Why isn’t Ricky in the tour? The BBC are sick! Anyway he is too good for them; apparently he’s going to Hollywood. I hope he does and makes it big. I wish him the very best in all he does.

  • Hilary

Agree with lots of the comments – of course Ricky should have won and the final should have been between him and Ali.
But when you read some of the reasons people give for voting as they did, eg. Ola\’s a beautiful woman; James and Ola helped Chris move; didn\’t like Natalie\’s outfit so changed vote to Chris and Ola, you can see why the whole thing degenerates into a complete farce.
I will not be watching again unless some changes are made – and, no, I\’m not being pathetic, as suggested by one person, just true to myself. (And life doesn\’t hsve to just be about the choice of watching either Strictly (Come Personaity/Underdog) or X Faxtor.
I don\’t suppose the BBC would be keen to have the judges having the final say in the vote because the revenue from the public vote would most likely drop, but maybe, as suggested by someone else, there could be a few different categories – best overall dancer, most improved and, if we really have to ( as it seems we do!!) the most endearing personality. Although if that\’s the case why didn\’t Natalie Cassidy get further?

  • welovericky

Ricky has been the best throughout the whole competition and he defineately deserved it more than chris did. Ricky’s full of talent and showed how good he is with all the lifts and quick moves, i could never see chris dong somthing as good as that in his lifetime lol. Ricky even had to learn three of the dances in a short amount of time for the final as he was filming Hollyoaks at the same time. He learnt it so quickly and managed to cope with the stress from both, and still manage to get into the final. And to top it off, hes extremely good looking too. He truely deserved it waaayy more.
chris would never survive the way Ricky has, like you said people only voted because hes a stupid presenter or watever. :| I also agree about the fact that he kept calling himself a hobbit..

I my eyes, Ricky will always be the winner <3 xx

  • scODDFINAL

As a new contributor to this forum, I would like to say that its obviously a split between dance fans and those that cast their votes for personalities. As a lover of Ballroom dancing for many years, I am firmly in the dance camp, but appreciate that everyone has a right to their opinion.

However, some of the views are very contradictory. The contributor I L Ali+Brian, (for example comments 72 and 74), writing under the name above, obviously supported Ali Bastian, surely one of the most wonderful celebrity ballroom dancers in the history of SCD. So I would have assumed that the above was a supporter of dance. When Ali went out, allegiance was evidently switched to the plodder (But likeable) Chris Hollins. CH went through at the expense of AB, so while accepting that we are all different, I nevertheless find it strange.

I personally think that it is harder if you are a lover of technically good dancing to accept anyone that we view as incompetent, rather than the reverse.

Lets face it, the best dancers in the competition were Ali Bastian and Ricky Whittle, and we have to make up our minds whether, given who won, we want to continue to watch the show.

I agree completely with contributor in comment 108, and his description of the contributor regarding comment 100, I fully endorse.

The no dance-off change of rules in the semi-final leaves room for much doubt.

I will finish by saying that whether you are a dance or personality person, the show has obviously lost something.

  • An Vogelzang

I thought strictly was a dance competition, not a popularity contest. Chris and Ola are very nice, but Ricky was the best ancer

  • Phil B

Chris always sold the dance. No, he obviously wasn´t the better dancer technically, but it´s never just about that is it? That´s why talented dancers go out of competitions, excellent singers go unnoticed. Having the skill isn´t enough, you have to have that extra quality that sets you apart. Ricky obviously has it, but Chris had more of it clearly. He won the competition, deal with it. Well done Chris & Ola.

  • Julie

Chris and Ola deserved to win because the entertained aswell as danced. I felt Rickys show dance was a show of style, look at me, I can do lots of lifts, so what that isn’t dancing, Chris put his heart and soul in it. I didn’t like Ricky or Natalie from the start, Natalie I believe assumed right from the get go they would be a sure in, well tough, it is a competition and the public won.

Nothing was said when Tom Chambers won last year, and it was down to being popular rather than being the better dancer.

I smiled whenever Chris and Ola came on and did the washing up when Ricky and Natalie arrived. Now Ricky is complaining that he hasn’t been asked on the Tour and apparently said that Chris was agaes ago, “did the BBc know something” is what he said, what a poor loser.

  • Al

In answer to 121, When he says that \\\’Having the skill isn\\\’t enough\\\’, Having no talent at all is worse. The cheeky chappie was handed the trophy, but did not win the dance competition.

In answer to 122, GOOD Dancing is entertainment in itself and was portrayed only by the best dancer, while the talentless cheekie chappie just ran around. You say that you didn\\\’t like Ricky and Natalie from the start. Is that your criteria for deciding the winner? You obviously were against them and never gave them a chance. RW is not exactly a favourite of mine when it comes to personality, but he was miles ahead from your choice when it came to Dancing. The only thing I agree with you on is about Tom Chambers. That was about a no dance-off fix in the semi-final, just like this year\\\’s when the BBC Bias allowed through their man, surely the worst winner in SCD history.

  • Really

Reply 123 hit the nail on the head.

The show makes a farce of having five judges ,we should add a few clowns next year and call it STRICTLY COME PRANCING.

And Brucie can sit on the knee of Tess like a ventriloquist act.

  • Unbelievable

The SCD Christmas show should be interesting——- is it judged on the public vote. If it is then, a tip for Chris will be to jump around in father CHRIS-mas outfit ,with olla in an elf outfit ——-that should win the personality vote for sure.

  • Sceptical

Why weren’t the number of viewer votes shown on each show? See last line of posting 64

  • Suspicious

Following on from comment 126, no release of viewers votes, no dance-off in the semi-final, allowing the BBC Sports Correspondent through. The vast majority of comments show a great support for the better dancers and are appalled that the circus act won. How did he win? It can only be through repetitive block voting as described in posting 48, which states that the supporter of the plodder spent £30 phoning in for him. Or something more sinister perhaps.

But we must accept that he’s an entertainer, that he’s made “The Journey”. Tosh!

The idiots are running the asylum.

  • charles

chris did not even know how to walk on the dance floor. all he knew was how to flap his hands in the air at the end of a sequence of steps and look as tho he was simultaneously suffering from constipation and diarrhea. as post 64 summarised perfectly…… something dodgy smells. The show should be axed like Big brother.

  • liza

i think the ola and chris where very good and was please they won. Was a great programme will watch the next series.

  • Ken J

You may be watching the next series liza, but a lot of true DANCE lovers will not. Did you see the Christmas special where Ali Bastian, Ricky Whittle, Rachel Stevens, Austin Healey and Gethin Jones showed what good celebrity dancing is all about? The receiver of this years trophy(I refuse to call him the winner) was once again hopeless in comparison.

You say that Ola and Chris were very good. I agree that Ola Jordan was good but had to cover up her partners shortcomings(Which were many) with clever choreography.

To all those that voted for the worst winner in SCD history, and saw the Christmas special, do you still think he\\\’s a good dancer?

  • Milvi

Watched today Christmas SCD video. Such a shame how badly Chris danced. He could be popular, but he is not a good dancer. How it is possible, he was a winner 2009? Good luck to Ricky – he is in my eyes the winner of 2009, and congratulations to Ali – she deserved Christmas trophy.
ALI and RICKY – you both are THE GRATEST DANCERS.

  • Debra

I think you all forget that Strictly Come Dancing is an entertainment programme and it never fails to entertain each Year. Ricky may have been the better dancer however Chris Won with the publics support. If it was a true dancing compeptition then the public vote should not even be included as not all of the public are professional dancers that are qualified to judge.

Well Done to all this years contestants, I enjoyed the show as always and will be watching again in 2010.

  • DanceFan

In answer to comment 132, the problem is Debra that although you think it is solely an entertainment programme, I hope you will agree with me that it is surely better for the show if the better dancers have at least a fair chance of getting through. Given the fact that the judges have had no input at the semi-final stage for the last two years, the lovers of good dancing feel that the show is being manipulated in an unfair way.

    • Richrumba

It saddens me that, with bland talent programmes such as The X Factor and Britains Got Talent, we should not be celebrating the fact that there is such a show as SCD showcasing both Ballroom and Latin dancing with excellent professionals. The problem is that it will never appeal to lovers of good dancing because I’m afraid it is not “Come Dancing” in the sense of the old programme. I loved watching Ricky and Ali but I also enjoyed Chris and Ola and, at the end of the day, I expressed my opinion on who I wanted to win, the vast majority of posts here would disagree with my decision and, from a purely dancing perspective, I can understand that. However, my belief is that, as an entertainment AND dancing show, Chris and Ola scored points in both camps ( I know he was not the best dancer) whereas Ricky and Ali did not (massive points for dancing!) and therein lies the problem. Lovers of good dancing should petition for the return of just the professionals in a “Come Dancing” format with no public voting BUT do not deny the rest of us to express an opinion based upon entertainment value and dancing ability howver poor you feel that ability is
