Brucie is cutting back the hours for Strictly Come Dancing 2010!

Source: mirror.co.uk

Bruce Forsyth is to cut back as Strictly Come Dancing’s top host.

The 82-year-old has told bosses he could not handle the “exhausting” new schedule after it was again decided to split the contest into two parts each weekend, with a Sunday results show.

Now the next BBC1 series set for September could be his last.

Brucie confessed he would struggle to maintain his energy and enthusiasm for up to four hours on a Saturday when both programmes are recorded.

And a BBC source said: “We have agreed he will just work on the main slot on the Saturday.

“It’s a compromise that keeps him on the show and everyone is happy he can ‘keep dancing’ for a while longer. But it is the beginning of the end in terms of his appearances.

“Most people think this will be his final year since he told us he couldn’t manage the whole series with the format we have in mind. It’s too much and would leave him exhausted.”

Bosses have yet to decide if Tess Daly will host the results show alone or if they will bring in a new man – as they did with Ronnie Corbett when Bruce fell ill once.

But they are close to signing Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson, 28, to team him with a young dancer to “sex up” the series that lost its last ratings war with the X Factor.

The move could upset singer Charlotte Church, mother of Henson’s two children.

The source said: “It’d be great viewing for everyone except her as they only split six weeks ago.”

Good Life star Felicity Kendal and ex-MP Anne Widdecombe are also expected to compete.

Now is the ideal time to offer the hosting of the results show to Brian Fortuna. He has experience of this on Dancing with the Stars and from his own cabaret style sell out shows with Kristina Rihanoff. He has a huge following and has the personality and looks to do this. This might help appease the army of supporters who were dismayed at his non appearance next series. Brian Fortuna deserves this opportunity.

I do agree. Brian is natural performer and he has a lovely personality.

  • Ruth B

Completely agree Jean, Brian is a great performer and is very natural with an audience. He also knows what he is talking about dancing wise.

I think he would be a real asset to the results show.

  • Pam

Brian would be an excellent choice at hosting or co-hosting the results show. As has already been said he has experience of presenting in the States and the UK (ITT) and really engages with the viewers and other guests on the numerous tv shows he has made an appearance on. Go on BBC give him a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

  • Glistener

I urge the BBC to give the presenter role to Brian. He is enormously popular, has a dancing background and is a natural on camera as we have seen during Strictly, ITT , DoW and as a guest on other shows such as the 5 o’clock show on C4. Come on BBC, this is an opportunity to make the show “new and exciting!!”, much as you are doing with the changes to the main programme

  • Patricia C

Brian would make an excellent presenter, he has experience from doing so on DWTS. He is very popular with a large fan base. He knows exactly what the dancers and celebs are experiencing and would be a breath of fresh air.

  • Patti

Shame about Brucie not being able to do both shows. I would welcome Brian Fortuna as a host for the Sunday show, having done DWTS tours, who better! He and Tess Daly would work well together and, this may win some viewers back to Strictly who haven’t enjoyed the Celebrity/Troupe intro to the new series. As someone has already said Brian would be a real asset to the results show!

  • Jenny

BBC snap Brian Fortuna up before another TV company does! He is just perfect for the job.

  • Emma

Brian would be fantastic for this, he’s incredibly popular and talented so he should definitely be considered!

  • Katharine

Bring back Brian for the results show! He is an absolute natural, has done this before in the states & deserves a chance to showcase his talents to the UK audience. Having competed in Dancing with the Stars and two series of Strictly, he knows exactly what it takes each week to come up with the choreography and to teach a celebrity to dance – he & Ali his partner from last year are now about to star in the west end. Come on BBC you know it makes sense!

An ideal host/co-host for the Results Show would be Brian Fortuna. He knows first-hand what the dancers/celebs are going through, has experience in hosting from DWTS and has the looks and charisma to carry out this role. A multi-talented young man who has proven to be a massive hit with the public and appeals to all ages.
Just think – the glamorous blonde and the handsome, young American presenting this part of the show – a winning combination. Tess herself thinks he’s great. Come on BBC – give Brian this chance, there’s no-one more deserving.

  • Debbie

Brian Fortuna would make an excellent presenter for the results show. He is popular, charasmatic and a natural in front of the camera. Please BBC; give him a chance, you will not regret it.

  • Kay L

Brian Fortuna would be a perfect choice as a host for SCD result show, himself and Tess would make a fantastic team. Brian has a great personality and has a very large fan base,he would be a hit with the viewers.

  • Elaine

I would love to see Brian Fortuna being given the opportunity to Present the results show on SCD. He would be an excellent choice with all his experience in dance/TV work that he has already done. He has a HUGE following and is very very popular. BBC please, please give him the chance !!!

  • Margaret

Brian Fortuna is the perfect person for hosting SCD he has a dancing background and is very popular with everyone and a lovely genuine personality PLEASE HAVE HIM

  • annette

Let Brian Fortuna host the SCD results show, he’d be brilliant at it and his
thousands of dedicated fans would put the audience figures far above the other side!

  • molly sata

brian fotuna would be perfect for the strictly result show

  • http://www.aol.com Chandra

I wholeheartedly agree that the BBC should give prime consideration to Brian Fortuna in their choice to fill the SCD vacancy in presenting The Results Show.Having seen his live shows with Kristina Rihanoff, and The Pro Tour shows at first hand, it is evident that he is a naturally talented dancer, presenter, singer, with a charming personality, and extremely handsome. The Audience loved him at every show. One could easily attribute the success and popularity of the 2009 series to the audience appeal Brian Fortuna and his beautiful partner Ali Bastian had week on week. The exclusion of Brian, from the next series is a huge blow and disappointment to his wide fan base, who after all increase the viewing audience ratings.

  • clare g

Hi would like to take this opportunity to say to the BBC that I think the Brian Fortuna would be tailored made for the results show on Sunday. I think he would add something special to the show & showing his skills as a presenter/host would be very refreshing & new. Please consider this. I have seen how Brian interacts with the audience & people. He is be made for the job!

  • Bexy

Come on BBC! You know it makes sense!!

  • CHRIS D.

I agree I think Brian Fortuna would make a excellent host for the results show,
he is charming, multi-talented and has a marvellous interaction with his audience, he has also done it before on DWTS.
Come on BBC for once listen to what the viewers want.

  • Kathryn

Brian Fortuna would be a charming and knowledgeable host for the Results Show. He has a large, dedicated fan base of all ages and is a natural compere – he and Tess would make a great team and bring the breath of fresh air to the show that the BBC are seeking, whilst appeasing Brian’s devastated fans. Go on BBC – make that call to Brian!

  • Rosie

A co-host for Tess Daly? Brian Fortuna would be perfect for the job. He’s personable, confident, understands every aspect of dance and already has experience with DWTS. He has a huge fan base in the UK and he and Tess get on very well together. I couldn’t think of anyone better qualified for the job.

  • Maria

Brian would be a brilliant host for SCD results show. He would be a bright, vibrant and most importantly knowledgeable presenter, who in partnership with Tess Daly, could bring a whole new audience to SCD. His passion for dancing is contagious, and as what has been said above, the BBC would do well to snap him up for the Results show as soon as is humanly possible.

  • Maz

What a fantastic idea, Brian would make an awesome host for the SCD results show! If the BBC has any sense at all it will sign him up immediately before some other TV company does!! Brian is an amazing dancer, has fantastic stage presence and would certainly help improve the ratings for the show. The BBC cannot afford to lose this talented dancer!!

  • BARBARA REES

Yea Agree with Brian as co-host have loved him from the start but what about Anton he has a good charisma with audience and when he appeared with Brucie went down a storm together. Will miss Brucie though but understand how he must be feeling it being too much. Don’t like the two shows anyway want to know on a Saturday who is going don’t you?

  • anne

I also agree,Brian would make an excellent host of results show.Engages easlily with everyone and knows waht he is talking about.

  • http://ntlworld pat hulme

I think it is high time Bruce was axed he is always promoting his opinion, that is what the judges are for. Any of the ex dancers would be good. What about Karen Hardy

  • Mouldy Sok

may be a great dancer with a lovely personality but really needs to sort his eyebrows out, its all i ca look at, and i think Brian is the best dancer ever.

  • Trefor Morgan

I say go on brucie show them what youve got mate. just because your getting older it doesn’t mean your past it does it. I work at a charity garden centre and there is a man there who is 92 and he has more energy than all of us youger ones put together and he is as sprightly as anything as well. so go on brucie give em hell.

  • http://BrianFortuna Mary

Bring back Brian Fortuna. He was the best dancer and strictly is now not worth watching without him. He dancing is excellent, his looks are great so why is he not performing for us.

  • EggChaser

Please, please, please, please, please bring back the incredibly talented Brian Fortuna.

  • Annie

Thank goodness that Bruce is considering leaving Strictly come Dancing.
Bruce is a very old man now & he lost his ‘kudos’ a long time ago.
It is cruel, pitiful, & embarrassing watching him struggle to read the auto cue & crack daft jokes, not to mention the patronising applause from the audience….
Most people I talk to record Strictly so that they can f/forward Bruce so I’m all in favour of a new & younger presenter.

  • jean

I agree with everything you say, but he cannot take the hint, I use the MUTE button when he talks. Why can,t he just introduce the dancers and get on with the show. He really believes that he is still good, it is really sad. Also I would like to see Arleen back as she knows what she is talking about, more than can be said for Alisha Dixon, she has not got a clue. Come on BBC retire them both bring back Arleen and we could have a good show.

  • BARBARA REES

FAB FAB Fabulous show tonight!! Well done everyone, way to go Pamela, she was magical, brought tears to my eyes
