Len Goodman fears the chop amidst Strictly Come Dancing shake-up

Miriam O’Reilly, the former Countryfile presenter, who is suing the BBC for alleged age and sex discrimination, warned this week that no woman was safe in television once she reached 45.

Len Goodman, the Strictly Come Dancing judge, fears that men might be no more secure.

The ex-ballroom dancer worries that he may be dropped like his former colleague, Arlene Phillips, 67.

“They have had a bit of a chop and a change, I have heard, but, if it is my turn, well, so be it,” said Goodman, 66, at a Strictly dinner held by the children’s charity Fight For Life.

“I am waiting for the contract to come through. Of course, I would love to do it.The BBC usually get in touch around this sort of time. They haven’t been in communication with me yet, so I am still waiting.”

Last week, the producers told five of the dancers that they would not get to dance with “celebrity” contestants and instead offered them parts in a new group.

“The real fans get to know the professionals almost as well as they know the celebrities, so it will be a bit of a shock to the system,” Goodman told Mandrake.

A BBC spokesman said it could not confirm whether Goodman would be a judge on the autumn series.

    Just read that Len Goodman may be axed.

    He better not be – as well as being ageist he is also the “main man” on the judging panel. His expertise and fairness is second to none. The BBC has already made one BIG mistake of axing Arlene. They had better not make another or they may find that the viewer ratings may drop.

    Why o why do the BBC feel they have to alter a winning formula, get rid of Miss Dixon, who knows zero about dancing, bring Arlene back and stop getting rid of the dancers we know and love,for if the BBC keep on ignoring the viewers feelings this could well be the last series.

    Here here couldn`t agree more I thought last year was the worst ever and if it is true there is no Darren and lilia I without doubt will not be watching.Bring back Arlene or Karen as a judge and leave the professionals as they are we luv them.I hate dancing with the stars and never watch it if the BBC are going down that road (which it looks like they are) it will be strictly suicide !!

    Snap! I agree. I do not watch Dancing with the Stars but absolutely love Strictly. The BBC should leave alone a winning formula. Bring back Arlene or ask Karen, bring back the lovable pros. Is the BBC hoping no one will watch this year!!!!! For goodness sake, BBC, leave well alone.
