Spooky Strictly sees it’s first 10s of the show

Source: Daily Mail

Former EastEnder Scott Maslen’s stunning interpretation of the Viennese Waltz with partner Natalie Lowe earned him an almost perfect score of three 10s.

But the Strictly Come Dancing audience reserved their most resounding applause – and standing ovation – for the bizarre spectacle performed by ex Government minister Ann Widdecombe.

Handsome Maslen, 39, glided across the dancefloor creating ‘dance magic’ after beating flu during the Halloween themed show.

He and partner Natalie performed a near flawless routine which earned high praise from the judges and a score of 39 out of 40 placing them top of the leaderboard.

However, in a routine which recalled broadcaster John Sergeant’s infamous paso doble, Widdecombe, 63, was dragged across the floor in an undignified manner which while it was criticised by the judges, was loved by the audience.

Widdecome performed the paso doble to the aptly named song Wild Thing, and her brave dance partner Anton Du Beke was seen hoisting the MP up to swing her around. Judge Dixon said Du Beke handled her ‘like an appliance.’

‘I don’t think I”ll ever recover from that ending… it was heavy,’ said Bruno. While the acerbic Craig’s opinion was boiled down to just three letters: ‘O.M.G.’

Head judge Len summed it up perfectly: ‘It was like an accident on the motorway, you don’t really want to watch but you can’t help it.’

Widdecombe and Du Beke’s ungainly performance earned them just two points from Craig, and 16 points in total leaving them at the opposite end of the leader board to Maslen.
With no dance off or judges deciding the outcome, Ann’s chances of winning are far greater than they would have been in previous years according to Coral bookmakers spokesman Gary Burton.
Meanwhile, the other dancers tried hard to stand out amid the scene-stealing performances.

Former Coronation Street actress Tina O’ Brien courted attention in a black rubber catsuit as a gothic Olivia Newton-John.

And Charlotte Church’s ex-boyfriend Gavin Henson performed his dance with his top off although it didn’t really improve his standing in the competition.
Second on the leaderboard Kara Tointon overcame a difficult week with partner Artem

Michelle Williams and Brendan Cole danced an energetic Jive – to the Timewarp.
‘What were you on… demented and I loved it,’ said Bruno.

‘While Craig called it ‘lobotomised darling.. but in a good way… I loved it.’ But head judge Len’s comments prompted an argument with Brendan.

Len was ‘bitterly disappointed with it… you got caught up in story of the time warp and last three quarters was all timewarp.’
To which Brendan said: ‘You need to go Specsavers.’

Why is there an apostrophe in “it’s” (sic) in the heading “Spooky Strictly sees it’s first 10s of the show”?

    • Wendy Wright

At last, someone else who knows where apostrophes should go!! Or should I say apostrophe’s?? lol

  • Warren Elaine

I am appalled by having to watch an elderly lady who is not able to dance being dragged around the floor, I thought we were watching a dance competition.

I agree with Craig she needs to go before we are forced to watch another “performance” and to think a lovely dancer like Tina was voted off makes me see red.

Len says he marks the dancing ability, but to give her a mark of 5 is a joke, when you compare the other scores he gives.

Please Ann do the DECENT THING get out now.

    • jean

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Ann has to GO!!! We are getting down to the better dancers now and it would be so unfair for them to leave and her to stay!. Jokes over, bye bye ann.

  • rosie

Ann is in because the public are voting for her. She`s great entertainment. Scot is the best dancer but it would be a boring show if all the contestants were the same.

  • Marjorie Bolam

With regard to Ann W on Strictly Come Dancing – as the title says it is a dancing show. How unfair that good dancers have to be eliminated because of this women trying to move around the floor. Let her make a fool of herself but dont include her in the competition.!!!!

    • Roger

That is the most brilliant suggestion I have ever heard with respect to SCD. The same approach could have been adopted with John Sergeant.

      • Marjorie Bolam

Thank you Roger, I am so please someone else thinks the same. It is a joke, such a shame as the show itself is great.

  • http://Strictlycomedancingnewsandgossip Sheena Davis

I have always loved strictly but it is such a shame it is turning into a circus. Ann W should be highly embarassed when she watches her performance and realise this is a dancing competition!!!!!! Come on Ann bow out gracefully and the country will love you for it.

  • Heidi Shaw

Absolutely – the grammar in the title is wrong.
    its = belonging to it
    it’s = it is
(yes, yes, this is kind of the oppposite to what we normally do i.e. Heidi’s comment; the BBC’s awful grammar… etc) Tough – you just have to learn the rule, then we can all get on and understand what we all mean.
The BBC should employ people that can spell. Poor show beeb.

    • Carol Scorah

Should be people WHO can spell Heidi. “That” refers to inanimate objects.

  • Bob Newton

How Scot maslin managed to dance the viennes waltz to the music played is beyond all sensible thinking, they should be dancing to Strauss, nothing less. Also the tango should sound like a tango, and to finish,do we have to have singing, with all dance tunes ???

  • Anne

Well I missed the whole thing (boo hoo). And I live in France so cannot watch any replays – but if Ann stays in while one or two of the more “ordinary” dancers go west, then that’s entertainment (and I hope I have my apostraphe in the right place). However, when it gets serious in a couple of weeks’ time – then I am confident that she will do a John Sargeant and fall on her sword. In the mean time, who would have thought that Ann W could provide so much fun.

  • Josie Baran

I must say I do not agree with all those saying how wonderful Saturday’s Strictly was. I thought the set/costumes/makeup totally distracted viewers from the meaning of the show which is DANCING. Why do you have to elaborate on Halloween which is evil and dark. An alternative of Light/Bright/Happy would be much more acceptable in a world that is full of evil happenings.

BBC – Stop following the USA by promoting such a pagan festival.

Anton – you are wonderful. They wouldn’t have dared give Ann to any other professional. Can you imagine her with Brendon?

  • tracey cummings

i really do feel its time for anne to leave as she is making it bad everytime and its not fair on the others.

  • Andy

Ann Wid – she is a joke – its not entertainment, how can anyone say it is. It makes a mockery of the whole show.

  • eileen

Thank goodness there’s someone else out there who agrees with me – Bob Newton. The “music” is terrible, and so are the singers. Please let’s have some Strauss, and real Latin tunes (without the caterwauling singers). Also, would Felicity Kendal please stop pulling silly faces all the time. It’s getting on my nerves watching her gurning whilst the judges decided whether or not she can dance.

  • Tracey

Ann W is funny but it is time for her to bow out gracefully (maybe tonight will be the night viewers get it right, unlikely though) it would make a complete mockery of the show should she get into the final, it was just the same with John S two series ago and he made my blood boil

    • Mary

I am a strictly fan -maybe even the biggest. But this years line up was the best for a long time but A W is spoiling what the show is supposed to be about – dancing. She has the brass neck of a politician and would no doubt justify her position as entertainment – it is funny but should not be part of the competition. Maybe it could be part of the Sunday show. I sure that if I was either Jimi or Tina I would regret having taken part in this travesty of a dancing show. I suppose that the best thing that could happen is Anton suffering a slipped disc and no-one else would take her on!

  • Marjorie

Regarding Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night – I wonder if Ann W had a huge guilty conscience after the show. What a farce, and poor Jimmy having to go out after that fantastic dance, and her staying in having only danced 4 steps in total. If this goes on any longer (and I am sure it will, as she will not bow out) I am afraid a lot of people will be switching off, me included. What a shame, as this could have be4en the best year yet.

  • Marjorie

Strictly come dancing – Saturday Blackpool – excellent show, apart from the result. What a joke this is turning in to be – Ann Widdicombe – rolling around the floor, looking stupid, now is that dancing!!!!! I dont think so, and unfortunately a very good dancer had to be eliminated
    ! it was a sin.

  • Tanis

Well the only way to get rid of her is for everyone to vote this week for someone who CAN dance! It’s up to us to get everyone motivated, email every one of your friends and lets get some sense into this voting!
