Strictly Come Dancing dance-off has been axed

The controversial dance-off has been axed from Strictly Come Dancing for series 10.

The dance-off was introduced a few years back (series 5?) to give the judges more control over whoever ended up in the bottom two.

The idea being that if someone who was a talented dancer but a complete bore was in the bottom two, the judges could save their fave and talk about Strictly being ” a darrrnce completition darrling”.

So how do we feel about this news? I think I’m happy with it as at least it let’s us see who is the least popular but I can see problems when a really good dancer gets the chop,  in favour of say, a Chris Hollins who has “personality”.

We will probably never be happy!

I think there are 2 points of view – it’s a dance competition so the best dancer should win and and it’s a tv programme so we should have on who the public want. Good dancing should be judged by dance judges to make it a dance competition but if you are going to involve the public and take their money then it has to come down to who the public want not who the judges want, their role should simply be to advise and help the public on what is good or bad

Mmmm…I’m torn aswell!I love Strictly but do think it’s a shame when a good dancer gets knocked out for a bigger personality..or even someone kept for the sympathy vote…but…while John Sargent was a lovely, lovely guy and it was genuinely amusing and entertaining watching him(sorry John!)…on the other hand a truly embarrassing dancer was Craig Kelly, who just couldn’t take it on the chin, started to act like a petulant child and I could see perfectly why the judges were annoyed with the public!!!mmm….still not sure!!

Personally i think it’s ridiculous getting rid of it. I understand that the public pay for voting so they should get a say but in the dance off the judges can only save 1 good dancer and all the others, the bad dancers or the big personality ones can also get through anyway. Also the final is completely decided by the public, and lets face it bad dancing is funny for a while but then you just feel sorry for them making a fool out of themselves and it’s not so entertaining anymore

Having given it a couple of weeks to think about it…the results show is now utterly boring without it (the lovely Peter Andre notwithstanding). I hate the splitting it up into three – it’s mean and doesn’t add any tension, except for the poor dancers waiting to hear their fate. The public DO have a reason to vote – to keep people out of that bottom two. Then the judges have something to do, the couples have a chance to up their game and keep themselves in, rather than just losing a popularity contest. Don’t like it. Not pleased.

A dance=off would make the Sunday show worth watching. As the public choose the lowest two couples the dance off gives the evening some point and interest, not to mention real tension in contrast to the artificial hype of the staggered ‘who is saved, who’s at risk’ section which is really annoying. Is the issue to do withthe extra cost of having the judges on a Sunday night?
