Strictly pairings to be announced in front of studio audience at BBC!

Contestants on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing will be revealed in a launch show filmed in front of an audience at BBC Television Centre.

They will also be introduced to their dance partners in the one-hour show, to be aired on 11 September – three weeks before the start of the contest. It is thought stars will be paid on a per-show basis this year, rather than being given a flat fee for the series.
And it is understood Bruce Forsyth will no longer present the results show.
The 82-year-old – who missed an episode of Strictly last year after catching influenza – has already revealed that will be taking a pay cut for the 2010 series.
In the newly-announced launch show,dancers and contestants will be filmed arriving on a red carpet and performing a group dance together. The programme will be shot on 8 September for broadcast three days later.
First meetings between dancers and celebrities in previous series were filmed in dance studios or workplaces and shown in video inserts during the opening episode.The BBC’s Mark Linsey called the “red carpet event” the ideal way to launch “a series that features more excitement and glamour than ever before”.
BBC sports presenter Chris Hollins won last year’s contest, beating Hollyoaks actor Ricky Whittle.
The show was criticised for failing to attract A-list names but nevertheless attracted an average audience of 9.16 million per show – second only to the previous year’s average of 9.54 million. That series was won by actor Tom Chambers and also featured contestants including John Sergeant and Christine Bleakley.
It has been rumoured that former MP Ann Widdecombe and actress Felicity Kendall will be among this year’s contestants.

    Like many viewers I am looking forward to the next edition of Strictly Come Dancing. BUT is it not time to retire Bruce Forsyth? Quite honestly he spoils it for many people with his constant unfunny patter. Anybody not knowing the programme would think it was “The Bruce Forsyth Show” as he seems to want to be the centre of attention all the time. It was Bruce Forsyth who should have been sacked – not Arlene Phillips!

      I absolutely agree with Joan. I do like Brucie and think he has done some fantastic shows in the past, but I think he has done one season too many. Anton Du Beke should replace him.
      I also think that Alesha Dixon is not good enough to be a judge. I and many other disregard her comments at the end of the dance. She should be replaced by Camilla Dallerup.

        Celia, I wholeheartedly AGREE with you, Bruce is past his sell by date and Aleisha Dixon is useless as a judge I call her the wanna be diva, they are spoiling a really good show. The show is about dancing NOT the bruce forsyth show. I wish bbc would run the show like the American version, Dancing with the Stars, Tom their compere is great,he,s funny, he doesn,t say a lot just gets on with the show.
        I don,t know if I will even bother watching this year.

      I WAS REALLY EXCITED BOUT STRICTLY THIS YEAR THE LINE UP IS AMAZING BUT I AM AFRAID ENOUGH IS ENOUGH I REFUSE TO WATCH AFTER SEEING ANTON YET AGAIN GET PAIRED WITH SOMEONE WHO CLEARLY IS GOING TO BE AWFUL, EVERY YEAR HE IS NEVER EVER GIVEN A DECENT CHANCE EVEN THOUGH IS CLEALRY NEAR ENOUGH THE BEST DANCER THERE. THIS YEAR AS JUST GONE CRAZY HE HAS BEND DOWN TO EVEN DANCE WITH ANNE SO ITS NOT EVEN AS IF THEY HAD TO GO TOGETHER FOR HEIGHT ! RIDICULOUS!

      AND AS FOR BRUCE I LIKED HIM BUT AFTER HIS COMMENTS ABOUT ALL THE CELEBRITIES HOPOING THEY DONT GET ANTON AS A PARTNER IS JUST UNFAIR CONSIDERING HE IS NEVER GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO WELL UNLIKE THE LIKE OF BRENDON WHO NEARLY ALWAYS GET SOMEONE WITH THE POTENTIAL TO WIN!

    I think Bruce is an important factor which contributes to the all round entertainment value of the programme and it wouldn’t be the same without him.

    I was annoyed when Arlene Phillips was replaced with Aliesha Dixon and assume that when you’re producing a programme like this glamour is more important than knowledge on the judges panel. Alieshe Dixon ticks all the right boxes on paper as she’s young, pretty and not white caucasian, but she doesn’t have the knowledge or experience to be a judge or the charisma required. I do hope she won’t be judging again this year.
