Quarter finals 2011 Strictly Come Dancing

The movie-themed quarter finals had some really good dances and I’m glad we are finally seeing some stand-out performances from the likes of Chelsee and Harry.

Judges quarter finals Strictly Come Dancing

That being said I just can’t understand the judges marking this year – and from reading a lot of your tweets; neither can you! I feel I should say that I have nothing against Alex and James, in fact James is one of my favourites, but their marks seem crazy tonight. Alex and James got 8, 8, 9, 9 = 34 for their Pretty Woman inspired American Smooth. When you look at the leader board it does add up in the sense that they are second from bottom but maybe all the couples are being over-marked!

Leaderboard

Chelsee and Pasha = 39

Holly and Artem = 38

Jason and Kristina = 37

Harry and Aliona = 36

Alex and James = 34

Robbie and Ola =30

Robbie and Ola quickstep Strictly Come Dancing

Robbie and Ola (loved the suits and shades) danced a Quickstep this week. It’s been a really hard week for Robbie and I think it’s admirable that he’s put in loads of training and pulled out a decent dance. OK he’s not up there with the rest of them but I still enjoyed his performance but think he could be in trouble this week. Time to go Robbie.

Harry and Aliona rumba Strictly Come Dancing

Now the Rumba is a hard dance to do for the male celeb but I thought Harry coped really well. Someone should have told him to take off that scarf though but apart from that it was a great dance. There was loads of Aliona as usually twirling about; more Harry less Aliona I say.

Alex and James American Smooth Strictly Come Dancing

Alex and James and their American Smooth was next….two 9s and two 8s??? I still can’t get over this hence the use of exasperated question marks. Loads of you out there emailing in to say the same about over-marking on this dance. It wasn’t touching, interesting or musical.

Holly and Artem Paso Strictly Come Dancing

Holly and Artem and their Paso next. Greatly improved in the sense that she gave us a bit more passion and personality but it still ain’t there for me. Booooo. As one fan put it on Facebook on the BBC Strictly page “Never seen anyone look so underwhelmed as getting a 10″. Well said.

Jason and Kristina american smooth Strictly Come Dancing

I must seem really grouchy this year but something just isn’t clicking for me with these couples! Jason Jason Jason – it was OK. He’s funny to watch but not a natural dancer. His American Smooth was like Alex’s American Smooth for me; they both do the steps but not much else.

Chelsee and Pasha Jive Strictly Come Dancing

Ah the saviours of Strictly Come Dancing Chelsee and Pash dancing the jive. She should have got four 10s for jumping up and down for a minute and a half with those boobs! She just breathes life onto the floor and I think she’s got the technique to match. I really enjoyed their jive and especially Pash dressed up as Shrek – brilliant!

So to sum up what I think:

1. I don’t mean to be grumpy.

2. Crazy over-marking.

3. Lack of musicality and personality.

4. I still love Strictly and that will never change!

5. Keeeeep Dancing!

I agree with most of your comments especially Chelsee, however I do think Jason is very good ,he’s not the most natural of dancers but works extremely hard to perfect his routine.I would like to see him & Chelsee on the final but I reckon it will be Chelsee & Harry ,I think Jason will come third .

    • Anonymous

I agree about Jason working really hard and at least we see his enthusiasm!

  • Leavanderheijden

Overall I agree with you about the marking, though I feel Harry deserved more! Granted he is my favourite so I may be biased. Personally I am not so keen on Chelsee. She copes well with the technique but she does not show real passion or warmth.

  • Lizlm

Re Holly-I thought  we were meant to vote on the ability to dance( which she obviously can) rather than the ability to gush at getting great marks?

  • Aashaw22

Love Chelsee and Pasha. She is fantastic in every dance and should win but it all the girls who vote so I suppose it will be Harry.

  • Anna

I agree, this year hasn’t sparkled into the ‘I love this show’ that normally has me ‘appelling’ or pirouetting around the kitchen in excitement after Saturday night’s tea.Â
That jive however…. best since Jill’s.

  • Tymartha

Couldn’t agree LESS – were we watching the same programme??????????????
Chelsee’s jive was a MESS – lots of arm waving with little control and hardly any pointy toes! Both Harry and Jason were under-marked – as ever judges comments and scoring don’t match up!

    • Rubyjones

I totally agree with you Tymartha – in fact, if you watch Chelsea’s legs, she is not actually moving in time to the music.  I think Pasha has been very clever to put lots of steps in her routines to make it look like she is moving quickly but it is a ruse and as for being anywhere near as good as Jill Halfpenny – no where near as far as I am concerned.  Harry’s dance, more complicated that Chelsea’s was more worthy of a ten in my opinion than Chelseas

  • Lisahammond1968

Anyone know where Tess’ lush black trouser suit that she wore on last night’s show is from?

  • Tanny

Think that Tess’s ‘lush black trouser suit’ is the best thing she has worn so far and she looked lovely – for once.  She is an atrractive lady, tall and slim, but her dresses are hardly ever right for her – colour, style, and often fit!!

  • Steve

I thought Holly was fab and a perfect antidote to all the back sotry schmallz that has engulfed the show in past – so she don’t gush but that’s a blessed relief.

  • Mainstreetmedia

Spot on with comments Alex. I love Chelsee but she needs a bit more finesse. She’ll not win in a month of Sundays, though. Sorry but Alex was awful. The judges are obviously just promoting the BBC ONE flagship show presenter. How come this series has scored so high in the ratings but real dance fans aren’t so keen. ‘Fraid I watch on Sky+ and fast forward through the patronising and unfunny videos etc. God, I’m in a grump today.

Disagree with pretty much everything you said. I thought Holly blew everyone out of the water, with Jason doing the only other interesting dance. Chelsee is overmarked.

    • Stevoatash

Holly’s performance was superb and I was shocked to see Jason in the bottom two after that great “Singin’ in the Rain” routine, though thankfully he made it through to the semis. Not sure why there are so many negative comments about Chelsee though – I think she’s a terrific dancer in both Latin and Ballroom and her “Shrek” jive was a delight!

  • Susanharte61

As far as I am concerned Harry is the top dancer this season, consistently great but agree with other comments re undermarking. Jason always lovely and SOOO watchable.Holly seems always to hold something back? Alex dont know what to say, cant bear James tho, Alex is ok and Chelsea can do the steps but NO passion.. Is Robbie the Chris Hollins for this year, always seems to enjoy but then he is dancing with the gorgeous Ola. Hmm Alex should go.

  • Amandamartin_babylon40

Can`t understand why the judges gave Jason such positive comments and then failed to produce any 10`s

  • dancefan

I agree totally that Chelsee is always overmarked and is given an unfair advantage.  Holly was fabulous – hope she gets through.  She is the best, the classiest and most beautiful of the girls by a long way.  I I don’t think Alex should still be in the competition.  James Jordan committed sacrilege on one of the greatest British pop classic songs with that out of sync dance interpretation. Even Craig is turning into a fawning hypocrite now

    • Absadet

Holly is my favorite and I am glad she is through to next week.

    • Amandamartin_babylon40

I agree that Alex shouldn`t still be in the competition. Just because someone is capable of learning the steps it doesn`t make them a dancer. She`s ok but mediocre, certainly not up to the level of Holly, Jason and Matt.

If anyone was watching Strictly it takes 2 tonight (5th Dec), does anyone know the brand of Zoe’s gorgeous black sparkly top she was wearing?

  • Freddyhoyland

I agree with amandamartin about how Alex mediocre is; and I think that somebody encouraging violence against peacefull Bristish People should never be in such a familial programme.  Don’t you?

  • Freddyhoyland

I also agree with mainstreetmedia.  Who are controling the votes of the public?  We cannot believe that Alex Jones got so high score, it seems manipulated…

  • dancefan

I thought Robbie behaved really well over having to leave Strictly.  He did have a great rapport with Ola.  In response to comments about Jason and Christina lacking any chemistry, I think Christina thinks the world of Jason, but he makes it too obvious that it is just a professional partnership for him.  (He could learn from James Jordan). The most believable couple now are Harry and Aliona

  • Watcher

I came across Dani Garcia and Luna dancing Milonga..great. Dani has been teacher for 50 years.  Would be great to invite them as guest dancers on Strictley.  I love all the dancers they make a good show.
