This week the competition really steps up a gear as the boys and the girls dance together for the first time, hoping to make it through to dance again next week.
So how has their training been going this week?
After being in the bottom two last week, Letitia’s confidence has been her biggest hurdle. ‘Whenever I start to panic, Darren really helps me to forget my nerves,’ she explains. ‘I hope on Saturday I will have more self confidence and do a great performance.’
Kelly and Brendan have been rehearsing hard. Perhaps even too much? ‘I’ve already danced this like a million times,’ Kelly said yesterday. Brendan replied, ‘Well maybe we need a million and five.’
Craig’s comments about Penny not being light enough on her feet have really hit home. After a successful run-through, Ian commented, ‘Isn’t that light enough Craig?’ to which Penny replied, ‘Penny the elephant!’
Flavia has been working Matt hard this week, particularly when it comes to his problem keeping eye-contact. Matt said he’s finding it difficult because she looks ‘like a cross between Penelope Cruz and Medusa!’
Camilla is very impressed with her star pupil this week. ‘It is a miracle how far he has come in 4 days,’ she said. Gethin has been really getting into the role, and commented, ‘This dance makes me feel angry!’ But Camilla was quick to correct him – ‘I don’t want it angry – I want it passionate!’
Meanwhile, Kate has been facing a new battle – how to be sexy. When Anton asked her to ‘be more sexy’, a frustrated Kate replied, ‘What the flippin’ Nora? Stand straight, thrust up, thrust out?!’
Alesha has admitted that she is a perfectionist, and while Matt tries to reassure her that their routine is looking great, she’s pushing for more difficult steps to replace the basics. She also admitted, ‘If I could flick my foot as fast as I speak, I think I’d be in for a winner!’
Ola is back on form, and has been working on Kenny’s emotions and expressions when he dances. Ola tried shouting ‘angry’ followed by ‘passion’ when they danced. Kenny took this method on board, and has been shouting the words himself when he practices on his own. Hope he remembers not to do that on Saturday!
Dom has been enjoying his and Lilia’s routine, but there’s been a disputeå over cheese. Lilia thought that a slap to her bum was too cheesy, but Dom liked it. ‘You can do the slap if we get to the final.’ Lilia promised. Ever the optimist, Dom replied, ‘What do you mean if? When!’
Nicole has been very impressed with John this week, and even thinks that ‘John has got the best sense of rhythm in the competitionå not just of the boys but out of the girls too.’ But for John, the nerves are setting in. ‘Will I be able to dance live? I’m not worried about the judges. I’m worried about the dance.’
Gabby has been working James very hard, so he’s come up with a new plan – Gabby dances on her own while he watches, then he starts the music again and joins in with her. So after two run-throughs back to back, Gabby is finally out of breath. Result!
Willie’s confidence has grown this week, ‘I was the underdog, but I’m now in the bottom five underdogs,’ he said. But it’s been no easy ride this week. ‘The training up to now has been softly, softly, but this week Erin’s going hard. It’s the same with me a snooker, if I knew someone could do it, I’d be tough too.’
