Strictly Come Dancing favourite Ricky Whittle’s night went from bad to worse after he bumped into his ex-girlfriend Carley Stenson before being arrested.
The actor, 28, was taken into custody in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of assaulting a paparazzo.
The incident took place as Whittle left the Parr Street Studios in Liverpool city centre, where he and Hollyoaks castmembers – including Stenson – had attended two co-stars’ leaving party.
A Merseyside police spokesperson confirmed: ‘A 28-year-old man from Billinge, Lancashire, has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody where he will be questioned by officers later today.
‘The arrest follows an incident in which took place in Duke Street, Liverpool City Centre, in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident involved a collision with a male pedestrian.’
It is believed Whittle’s car may have collided with a photographer named Steve Farrel, 34, as he attempted to drive home from the party.
Farrel was previously involved in an incident involving footballer Paul Gascoigne four years ago.
Earlier that evening, Whittle would have experienced an awkward encounter with Stenson as they socialised together for the first time since they called time of their two years relationship.
While Whittle, 28, looked like he was in his rehearsal clothes, Stenson pulled out all the stops in her grey sequinned asymmetrical dress and boots.
The couple confirmed their split three weeks ago and insisted they remained ‘good friends’.
After insisting no one else was involved in their split, Whittle denied reports of a romance with his Strictly professional partner Natalie Lowe.

I’m sure Ricky will have been harrassed, it sounds a bit strange especially as the photographer has been involved with celebs before.
Ricky should be asked to leave stictly, as him staying sends a wrong message, \"it\’s fine to go out and run people over and not have to pay any immediate consequenses.\"
Ricky should be allowed to dance, he is innocent until proven guilty. Leave him alone!!!
